Abel H. Sanchez Sr. passed away on December 26, 2021, at the age of 73.
Abel is preceded in death by his father, Arnold Bernal Sanchez, his mother, Mercedes H. Sanchez, and his grandson, Eduardo Antonio Jimenez Jr.
He is survived by his children, Abel C. Sanchez Jr., (Veronica), DeeAnn C. Hernandez (Maria E.), Leticia M. Zuniga (Pete), Stephanie Garcia, Arnold Sanchez (Shannon), Deborah Harris, and Jose A. Garcia (Sandra M.), his 18 grandchildren, and his 5 great-grandchildren.
Abel was born on May 5, 1948, in San Antonio, Texas to the late Arnold and Mercedes Sanchez. He accomplished so many incredible things in life but was especially proud of his service with the United States Marine Corps. His honors included the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Abel was self-employed after his service in the military and would help and support anyone he knew. His heart was huge and his capacity for generosity knew no bounds. Abel loved the outdoors, traveling, being at the beach, and fishing any chance he could get. He enjoyed his music was an avid sports fan who supported his Texas teams like the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys. He loved his family and especially loved the memories made together with them. Abel brought immense joy to those around him. He inspired those around him to be a better person. We loved his caring ways, and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Words cannot express the feeling in our hearts. Thank you for your prayers and support during this difficult time. Your shared memories, comforting condolences and gestures of love are truly appreciated.
A visitation will be held at Castillo Funeral Home on Sunday, January 16, 2022, from 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 pm. The funeral mass will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church on Monday, January 17, 2022, at 10:00 am with burial to follow at Wildflower cemetery.
