Alfonso R, Villasana was born on July 30, 1939. At he age of 3, Alfonso contracted a very high fever and was not expected to love. Our mother did not give up. With Dr. Horacio Gonzales, and our mother's persistent care, he began a slow pace to recovery.
As a little boy, Alfonso sold newspapers. As a teenager, he went to work at The Bun & Barrel, where he waited on customers, and developed his own communication skills with his customers.

He worked at Valdez Auto Repair on Frio City Road for over 20 years, doing mechanic and auto repair work.
When Valdez Auto Repair closed, the owner's son encouraged him to work at Kelly Air Force Base. He worked worked on airplane engines at Kelly AFB for 10 years, then transferred to Tinker AFB in Oklahoma, where he worked for 12 more years and retired.
He had been living with his girlfriend, Yolie Serna, since returning to San Antonio.
Alfonso never accepted that he was deaf. He had many friends and was able to communicate well with them, and they with him.
