Obituary

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Alfred C. Medina, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.  Alfred was born on August 11, 1936, in San Antonio, Texas and at the age of 87 was called home by our Lord on May 27, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Alfred graduated from Sidney Lanier High School, San Antonio in 1955 the home of the mighty VOKS, he loved listening to the music of the 50's the Oldies but Goodies. He worked in the industrial printing business. Alfred was an avid Golfer and belonged to several Golf Clubs. In his younger days he belonged to the Boys Club where he played basketball.

Alfred also played amateur baseball.  Notably, for Cardona's Welders. He was a pitcher for several amateur baseball teams playing with different local teams after Cardona's Welders. His nickname was "Chato."

Alfred was always ready for a good game of billiards (pool). He was a diehard fan of the Dallas Cowboys, and San Antonio Spurs no matter where the team stood and would always bet on their success.

Alfred was preceded in death by his father, Juan Medina, mother, Jovita C. Medina, brothers, Jose Medina, Juan Medina, Jr., Arnulfo Medina, sisters, Teresita Medina, Elvira Medina, and several nieces and nephews.

Alfred is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Irene R. Medina, who provided his care through to the end, his four children, Alfred Medina, Jr. (wife Mel) grandson Freddy, great grandchildren Jeremiah, Scarlett, and Malachi. Granddaughter Monica, (husband Shane), great grandchildren Devon and Gabriel and grandsons Marcus and Christopher. Daniel Medina (wife Angie) grandson Danny, Jr. great grandchildren, Aden, Penelope, and Evelyn. Granddaughter Marissa (husband Steve) great granddaughter Isabella. Granddaughter Daniella Marie, great grandchildren Laylani and John Daniel, and Grandson Johnny. Angie Nichols (husband Roc) Granddaughter, Angel Denise (husband Jesse) great grandchildren Darius, Aliyana, and Aniyah. Son Edward R. Medina (wife Patty) granddaughter Pariz Evette, and his sisters, Josie Garay (Frank), Maria Elena Zamora (Joe), and brother Richard Medina as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation services will be held at Castillo Funeral Home on June 10, 2024, from 4PM to 8PM, with recital of the Rosary at 6PM. On June 11, 2024, departure from Castillo Funeral Home at 9:15AM, for a 10AM funeral mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with interment following the church service at San Fernando Catholic Cemetery II. We welcome all who knew Alfred to join us in celebrating the life of a man who was loved deeply and will be greatly missed.
