January 9, 1955 – February 6, 2024
Alfredo Campos Jimenez entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at the age of 69. Mr. Jimenez was the 1973 valedictorian of Kennedy High School. He went on to receive his bachelor's degree from Stanford University, Palo Alto, California, in 1973 and a dual master's degree in Spanish and Education from Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, in 1987.
At Stanford University, Mr. Jimenez was a proud resident of Casa Zapata. Mr. Jimenez also participated in countless mutual aid assistance programs including the Barrio Assistance Program. His commitment to social justice was solidified when he had the opportunity to act with EL Teatro Campesino. Most notably, Mr. Jimenez distinguished himself as a Latin American Studies researcher when he received a Danforth Fellowship which enabled him to travel throughout Mexico to study political theater.
Mr. Jimenez returned to his birthplace of San Antonio, Texas committed to his core values as a Chicano activist. He inspired many Chicano students as an educator with Edgewood Independent School District's Teacher Corps and later in life, through his work for non-profits including at Project Learn to Read where he taught ESL to adult learners. Mr. Jimenez left an indelible mark on the lives of his students and he will be remembered for his empathy and compassionate teaching.
He is survived by his brother, Humberto Campos of San Antonio, Texas; his niece, Cynthia Campos, Esquire, of Portland, Oregon, his nephew-in-law, John Kee Park, Esquire, and his beloved grand niece, Mina Campos Park. Mr. Jimenez is preceded in death by his mother, Maria Campos Jimenez and his father Simon Jimenez.
He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. that evening. A funeral home departure will occur on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 10:00 a.m for a 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass at St Jude Catholic Church with burial to follow at San Fernando Catholic Cemetery II.
