Obituary

With profound sadness the family of Alice J. Mejia announce her passing at home surrounded by the love of family on Friday, November 25, 2022, she was 79 years old.

Alice was born on December 15, 1942, in San Antonio Texas to the late Julia and Joe Jasso. Mike Mejia Jr and Alice were married at St. Mary's Church on December 17, 1960. Together they shared a special bond and celebrated 59 years together before his passing in 2020. In addition to being a wonderful wife, she was a spectacular mother to her daughters, Michelle and Melissa, and a magnificent grandmother and great grandmother.

A lifelong resident of San Antonio, Alice attended Burnett Elementary School, Poe Jr Middle School, graduated from Fox Tech High School in the 60's and would further her education by completing her associates degree at San Antonio College.  Choosing a career in the financial industry, Alice worked for institutions beginning with Richard Gill 1960 and after a long career finishing at GECU/SACU. It was at SACU that Alice would spend most of her years; from 1968 until 2008 when she officially retired after 40 years of dedicated service. In retirement, Alice could focus on interests that brought her great joy. She enjoyed crafting all kinds of masterpieces and she especially liked making jewelry. She was an avid reader and loved to travel. She had incredible luck, Alice loved playing bingo, trips to Las Vegas and the casinos in and around Texas to play the slot machines were a must. She is especially remembered for her willingness to fight through numerous illnesses and a 16-year battle with cancer with grace and positivity. Ultimate joy came from the moments she spent with those dearest to her. She loved connecting with her great friends she made during her lifetime, getting together with her sisters who she loved and cared for so dearly, and coming together at family functions. Her capacity for generosity knew no bounds as she would help anyone in need with support, encouragement, and guidance. All the times spent together with her and lessons learned are moments that exists now mostly in memories of all who knew her; she will never be forgotten.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Mike Mejia Jr; parents, Julia Jasso and Joe L. Jasso; brother-in-law, Ernest Banda; and mother-in-law, Santos Mejia.
