Con profundo dolor y tristeza anunciamos el fallecimiento de Alicia G. Ruiz, amada esposa, madre y abuela, quien falleció en San Antonio, Texas, el 23 de marzo de 2025, a la edad de 83 años. Falleció en paz en el Baptist Medical Center Downtown, rodeada de su amorosa familia.

Nacida en Allende, Coahuila, el 18 de noviembre de 1941, Alicia fue la querida hija de Valeriano y Josefa Ovalle Guardiola. Conocida cariñosamente por su familia como "Licha", creció en Nuevo Laredo, México, junto a sus cuatro hermanos protectores y dos hermanas cariñosas.

Mientras trabajaba en un conocido supermercado, Alicia conoció al amor de su vida. Pronto se casaron y fueron bendecidos con dos hijas. Más tarde, se trasladaron a Utah, donde su familia siguió creciendo con el nacimiento de un hijo y otra hija. Finalmente, se establecieron en San Antonio, Texas, para estar más cerca de sus seres queridos. Fue allí donde su familia se completó con la llegada de su hija menor.

Alicia construyó un hogar afectuoso, lleno de calidez, risas y tradiciones. Formó una familia muy unida y se sentía profundamente orgullosa de sus hijos. Como católica devota, mantuvo a Dios en el centro de su vida. Fue una mujer compasiva, fuerte y bondadosa, siempre dispuesta a ayudar a quien lo necesitara. Durante 61 hermosos años, compartió una vida de fe y dedicación junto a su esposo, Luis.

Aunque su prioridad siempre fue su familia, Alicia también tenía un espíritu emprendedor, siguiendo los pasos de su padre. Desde operar un camión de comida hasta tener un negocio en el mercado de pulgas, siempre fue una luchadora incansable. Vendió productos como Avon, Tiara, Tupperware y muchos más, siempre siendo de las mejores vendedoras. También trabajó durante muchos años en Pace Foods, hogar de la famosa salsa picante.

Alicia era conocida por su increíble sazón, especialmente por sus tamales durante las fiestas, que le encantaban a amigos y vecinos. Cada Nochebuena, era tradición que preparara menudo y buñuelos. Nadie salía de su casa con hambre; le encantaba alimentar a todo el que llegaba a su acogedor hogar.

Los domingos eran "Famday": días de reuniones familiares con barbacoas, comidas compartidas y momentos especiales con sus hijos, nietos y bisnietos. Le encantaban sus novelas, animaba a los Spurs y a los Cowboys, disfrutaba de sus sopas de letras para mantener la mente activa, y sentía un cariño especial por el bingo y los viajes a Kickapoo para jugar en las máquinas tragamonedas. Una de sus frases favoritas era: "Que Dios los bendiga y si Dios quiere."

A Alicia le sobreviven su amado esposo, Luis Ruiz Jr.; sus hijos Alicia (Michael) Hernández, Sandra Hernández, Luis (Vipa) Ruiz, Santa Ruiz (David) Ortiz, y Elizabeth (Matthew) Longoria; sus hermanos Federico Guardiola y Raúl (Alma) Guardiola; su hermana Dolores (Jaime) Madrid; sus nietos Christopher (Esmeralda) Hernández, Alexandra Garza, Crystal Hernández, Mario Luis Duran, Analisa Garza, Adrián (Anjelica) Garza, Arianna Ortiz, Victoria Longoria, Nathan Hernández y Lilliana Longoria; sus bisnietos Julián Hernández, Gabriella Hernández, Anavey Banda, Aquilez Urquizo, Abigail Presas, Anjelica Garza, Damián Hernández, Araceli Presas y Adrián Garza Jr.; así como muchas sobrinas, sobrinos y ahijados.

Le preceden en la muerte sus padres, Valeriano y Josefa Ovalle Guardiola; sus hermanos Valeriano Guardiola y José Ramón Guardiola; su hermana Ana Guardiola; y su nieto Miguel Ángel Hernández Jr.

Su amor y su espíritu permanecerán por siempre en nuestros corazones. Guardaremos con cariño sus recuerdos y las lecciones que nos dejó, llevando su legado con nosotros en todo lo que hagamos.

It is with deep sorrow and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Alicia G. Ruiz, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, who passed away in San Antonio, Texas on March 23, 2025, at the age of 83. She passed peacefully at Baptist Medical Center Downtown, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Allende, Coahuila on November 18, 1941, Alicia was the cherished daughter of Valeriano and Josefa Ovalle Guardiola. Known affectionately to her family as "Licha," she grew up in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, alongside her four protective brothers and two loving sisters.

While working at a well-known supermarket, Alicia met the love of her life. They soon married and were blessed with two daughters. Later, they moved to Utah, where their family continued to grow with the birth of a son and another daughter. Eventually, they settled in San Antonio, Texas to be closer to extended family. It was there that their family was completed with the arrival of their youngest daughter.

Alicia built a nurturing and loving home filled with warmth, laughter, and tradition. She raised a close-knit family and took immense pride in her children. A devout Catholic, Alicia kept God at the center of her life. She was compassionate, strong, and kind-hearted—always willing to help those in need. For 61 beautiful years, she and her devoted husband, Luis, shared a life centered around family and faith.

While raising her family remained her top priority, Alicia also had an entrepreneurial spirit, following in her father's footsteps. From running a food truck to operating a flea market business, she was a go-getter through and through. She sold Avon, Tiara, Tupperware, and more—always among the top sellers. She also worked at Pace Foods, the home of the famous picante sauce, for many years.

Alicia was known for her incredible cooking—especially her delicious tamales during the holidays, which friends and neighbors raved about. Every New Year's Eve, it was tradition for her to make menudo and buñuelos. No one ever left her house hungry; she loved feeding anyone who came by her welcoming home.

Sundays were "Famday," a time for barbecues, potlucks, and creating memories with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved her novelas, cheered for the Spurs and Cowboys, enjoyed word search puzzles to keep her mind sharp, and had a special love for bingo and trips to Kickapoo to play the slot machines. One of her favorite sayings was, "Que Dios los bendiga y si Dios quiere."Alicia is survived by her beloved husband, Luis Ruiz Jr.; children Alicia (Michael) Hernandez, Sandra Hernandez, Luis (Vipa) Ruiz, Santa Ruiz (David) Ortiz, and Elizabeth (Matthew) Longoria; brothers Federico Guardiola and Raul (Alma) Guardiola; sister Dolores (Jaime) Madrid; grandchildren Christopher (Esmeralda) Hernandez, Alexandra Garza, Crystal Hernandez, Mario Luis Duran, Analisa Garza, Adrian (Anjelica) Garza, Arianna Ortiz, Victoria Longoria, Nathan Hernandez, and Lilliana Longoria; great-grandchildren Julian Hernandez, Gabriella Hernandez, Anavey Banda, Aquilez Urquizo, Abigail Presas, Anjelica Garza, Damian Hernandez, Araceli Presas, and Adrian Garza Jr.; and her many nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Valeriano and Josefa Ovalle Guardiola; brothers Valeriano Guardiola and Jose Ramon Guardiola; sister Ana Guardiola; and grandson Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr.

Her love and spirit will remain in our hearts forever. We will cherish the memories and lessons she gave us, carrying her legacy with us always.
