Alonzo
Vasquez
May 5, 1932 – April 22, 2020
Alonzo Vasquez passed away peacefully on April 22, 2020, surrounded by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ of Nazareth. He was 87 years old, and two weeks shy from his next birthday. He was born on May 5 , 1932, and grew up in Laredo, Texas.
During the Korean War, he enlisted and served honorably in the United States Air Force. In 1954, he met the love of his life, Alicia, whom he married on May 14, 1955, and completed 64 years of marriage together! She was also from Laredo. He and his wife moved to San Antonio, Texas, in 1956. After a couple of other jobs, he started working at Security Hill at Kelly Air Force Base for 35 years. He retired at the age of 55, and enjoyed his retirement for 32 years with his beloved wife.
He was a very loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather! We never lacked because of his hard work ethic and his unfailing support towards his family. He was a man of few words but when he spoke, we listened because, he was full of wisdom and knowledge. What is most precious to his family is that later in his life he became a Born-Again Christian. He began to read his Bible for understanding and answers. He was an avid reader and that may explain why he kept his wits even to his old age.
Alonzo is preceded in death by his parents, Matias and Soledad Vasquez, his siblings, Natividad Vasquez, Lucia V Montiel, Matias Vasquez and Amelia Vasquez. He has one surviving younger brother, Jose P. Vasquez.
Alonzo was dearly loved and will be missed by his wife, Alicia G. Vasquez; daughters, Leticia V. Gonzales and Irene O. Vasquez; and son, David (Celia A. ) Vasquez. He leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family who also loved and appreciated him very much. They all have very special, loving memories of him!
