Obituary

Alvino M. Gonzales born on October 10, 1925 went peacefully to meet his Lord on March 26, 2022. He died of natural causes in the presence of many of his family and close friends as he took his last breath -- the only time in his life he had been in a hospital.  He was always such a positive soul and when asked, how are you doing, no matter what, he would always answer, pretty good-pretty good. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvino and Trinidad Gonzales, and his four sisters Manuela Davila, Corina Rodriguez, Eloisa Gonzales, and Teresa G. Roman.   Alvino who was also known by many of us as "Uncle Pin" is survived by his numerous nephews, nieces and their families.  He was a father figure to us and never stepped back when someone needed help, especially his family. He was a proud WWII Veteran having received a Bronze Star but never told anyone. He retired in his early 60's after 30 years with the U S Post Office and would say—if only I knew I was going to live this long I would have kept on working. His passion for helping others his entire life lead him to volunteer for about 20 years at San Jose Nursing Home where he was known as "Mr. G". He wanted to continue his service there only the pandemic stopped him from going. He also enjoyed meeting every morning to have coffee with his close friends, Victor Jimenez, Uncle Tom and Uncle Pete at their favorite southside restaurants.  He was a man of strong faith, morals and character. He was the last of his generation and the foundation of our family. We will miss him.
