Amada (Amy) Juanita
Esparza
February 25, 1956 – April 14, 2026
Amada (Amy) Juanita Esparza passed away peacefully on April 14,2026, at the age of 70. She was surrounded by the warmth and love of her family. Amy was born on February 25,1956, in San Antonio, Texas, the youngest of three of children to Arturo Antonio Esparza and Angela Rodriguez Esparza. Amy grew up in San Antonio and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1974. In her youth, she learned the value of hard work and perseverance as she helped her father’s newspaper delivery route with the San Antonio Light. Thus, setting the tone for her work ethic and the lessons she carried throughout her life.
Amada was adored in the neighborhood by her family, friends of family, and the community just like what her name meant “loved.”
Amy was a dedicated worker and friend throughout her life. Starting in 1982, she spent 30 years at Focus Direct. She excelled as supervisor in quality control, training, machine setup and operation. In 2013, she transitioned to the food service industry, working at Brooke Army Medical Center’s dining services, while catering during the weekends for Bill Miller Bar-B-Q. Her career showcased a tireless work ethic, spanning decades of leadership and versatile service.
Amy was a wonderful person whether it was with family, friends, co-workers, or anyone she met. She displayed love and compassion for them.
Even though Amy had a devotion to work, she also had a strong devotion to her family and her faith. She was the glue that held the family together. When her father fell ill, she took care of him to his passing. Later, as Amy’s mother became elderly, she became her caregiver. While working full-time and taking care of the family, she raised two wonderful children. Amy was a loving mother and human being. Her children remember her as the mom who was always their hero, as well as always being humorous with her witty remarks. She had the best of qualities of unconditional love and an unending generosity that could be seen in her care for her family and friends.
Amada enjoyed gardening, cooking, and listening to her favorite bands or musicians, some of which included The Monkeys, The Beatles, Genesis, Phil Collins, and Paul McCartney. She loved to dance whether it was Tejano, cumbia, or polka music. Another of her favorite pastimes was watching her evening telenovelas or watching Jeff Dunham.
Amy endured struggles throughout her life even till her final days. Though times weren’t always easy, Amy knew that she was always loved and cared for by her children, and those closest to her, and showed tremendous strength throughout it all.
Amada is preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Arthur A. Esparza Jr. and Armando B. Esparza. Amada is survived by her daughter, Gilberta Roszenne Contreras, and son, John Leonard Contreras. Amada is also survived by her two aunts, Susie Rodriguez & Irene Esparza, along with numerous cousins and friends. Amada was an avid pet lover and is survived by her two beloved chihuahuas, Pebbles and Luna along with her cat, Cuddles.
Nothing can fill the void that has been left by our beloved mother. We are grateful to God for the gift of her life, her love, and her memories. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and will continue to live in our hearts forever.
