Obituary

Ambrosio Obregon Jr.
November 4, 1959 – December 25, 2024

Ambrosio "Butch" Obregon Jr. was born on November 4,1959, in San Antonio, Texas, to Ambrosio Sr. and Leonor "Nora" Obregon. He passed away on December 25, 2024, on one of his favorite holidays, Christmas Day.

A graduate of Burbank High School, Class of 1978, Butch was known by friends and family for his free-spirited nature and independent heart. Though he marched to the beat of his own drum, often getting into mischief as a young man, his irrepressible personality and kind heart made him a beloved figure to those who knew him. Affectionately called "Butch" by those closest to him, he never failed to make a lasting impression on everyone he met.

His first job, working at Cristan's Tacos during high school, was just the beginning of a diverse career. From there, Butch worked as a painter for Ray Ellison, dabbled in landscaping, honed his culinary skills as a pastry chef at Lackland Air Force Base, and later provided security at the convention center. He also worked alongside his brother Joseph "Joey" setting up fences and doing iron work, a bond that brought him great pride. His work was always done with dedication, though his true joy came from his life outside of work.

Butch had a deep love for the simple pleasures in life—camping and fishing with his brother Joey, listening to music on his boombox while relaxing on the front porch with a cold Busch beer, and indulging in his love of sports, especially the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Cowboys. Butch was easily recognized by his signature style—Levi's jeans, flannel shirts, Converse sneakers, and a red Schwinn bike that he rode around the neighborhood daily. His presence was a constant in the community, where he was known and adored by many.

A devoted son, Butch cherished his time with his mother Nora, decorating her house for Halloween and Christmas with an abundance of inflatables. He continued this tradition even after her passing, honoring her memory with love. His dog, Johnny, who passed away in August 2024, was his constant companion for 12 years. Not long after Johnny's passing, Butch adopted a new dog, Jon Jon, from the animal shelter, a testament to his compassionate nature. Jon Jon is now being cared for by Butch's family, who will ensure that his memory lives on through his beloved pet. Family was everything to Butch, and he will be deeply missed by those who knew him and loved him.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Ambrosio Sr. and Leonor Obregon, and his brother-in-law, Alexander Fernandez Sr. He is survived by his siblings Velma Fernandez, Jeanette Ramon (Michael), and Joseph Obregon; nieces April Fernandez, Tina Obregon, Ami Obregon, and Patrisha Martin Del Campo; and nephews Alexander Fernandez, Michael Ramon, Marcus Ramon, and Damien Obregon. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will forever cherish his spirit, his laughter, and the love he so freely gave.

A service to honor Butch's life will be held on January 18th at 1pm. He will be deeply missed, but his love, his laughter and heart will remain with us forever.
