Andrew
Cantu
November 26, 1964 – November 22, 2021
Andrew Cantu passed away peacefully surrounded by his daughter and family on November 22, 2021. He was born on November 26, 1964 in San Antonio to the late Eluterio and Candelaria Cantu. Many people that knew Andrew could never have imagined that he was a premature baby who was brought home in a shoe box and not expected to live long. But by the grace of God and the love of both his parents, he grew and lived for 56 years. Growing up, he used to tell the story of when his parents went grocery shopping they had to buy two gallons of milk, one for the family and one just for him since he loved drinking milk. That would explain why he grew to be 5'11".
In 1985, Andrew graduated from John F. Kennedy High School. He loved cruising around in his black Monte Carlo, which was the first car he had and kept that car for over 20 years. As a child he would visit Western Auto which was across the street from his parent's home to talk to the employees there. Every now and then, he would bring some of them lunch from his moms house. One story that stands out the most is when an employee by the name of Patricio asked Andrew what his mom made for lunch and he said Caldo. Patricio said "I LOVE Caldo", can you bring me a taco, so he went home and put the stuff that was in the Caldo into a tortilla and brought it back to Patricio. Patricio could not stop laughing. Not sure if his mom knew he was doing this but he loved helping people even as a youngster. So, naturally his first career began at Western Auto working part time in 1983 and then full time after he graduated.
A year after graduating from high school, he met a girl, who was also a 1985 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, that he would later marry and together they adopted their daughter Andreanna Cantu. After years of working at Western Auto, he went to work for a courier service and then in January, 1996 he began his ultimate career at Penske Truck Leasing. He began driving delivery trucks and later decided to get his CDL to be able to drive tractor trailers. Working there, his main truck delivery areas were Texas but he was able to travel to different areas throughout the United States. At one time, he even thought about buying his own tractor trailer but this fell through. He later got divorced after 24 years and shared joint custody of their daughter.
Andrew was an all around loving guy and many saw him as a gentle giant. He will truly be missed first of all by his daughter, family and by many who knew him. But the comfort we have is that he had accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and he is now walking those streets of gold no longer suffering from any illnesses.
Andrew is survived by his daughter, Andreanna Cantu, brothers: Harry Cantu and Humberto Cantu and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Eluterio and Candelaria Cantu, Sister Angelita Cantu and Brother Harold Cantu.
