Anita Catalina
Villegas Zavala
January 18, 1931 – June 23, 2022
Anita Catalina Villegas Zavala was born January 18, 1931 and was surrounded by family as she went on to be with the Lord on June 23, 2022 at the age of 91.
She was the youngest daughter born to Eugene and Maria Antonia Villegas. She graduated from Lewis W Fox Vocational and Technical high school. She is preceded in death by her parents Eugene and Maria Antonia Villegas, her sister Mary Louise Garcia, and her beloved grandchildren David Christopher Jr., Roy Rodriguez IV, Raven Broque Morales and Leilia Rodriguez, also son-in-law David Christopher Sr.
She is survived by her sister Virginia Espinosa, children Patricia De La Vega (Steve), Sandra Christopher, and Ernest Zavala (Catalina), an abundance of nieces and nephews, 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren and another great granddaughter due in October.
Our mom was a devout catholic, and parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church serving God through the Legion of Mary ladies' group for many years. Anita Retired after 10 years working at the University of Incarnate Word in the Archives Department. After retirement, she enjoyed exercising at the YMCA getting together with friends or family for breakfast or lunch spending time in her backyard doing gardening, especially growing flowers, herbs and roses in her backyard and is well known in her family as "Grandma with the Flowers". She traveled often to California, Las Vegas and Mexico.
She was a beacon of hope who gave love and care to everyone that she knew. She radiated the love of God. Her Christian character was evident throughout her suffering. Understanding that her illness could possibly remove her from this world at any time, she made provisions for her departure.
She fought a courageous fight with style and dignity. Once again, her undaunting spirit in the midst of her failing health was a testimony of her love for life and her LORD.
Her biggest joy was having family gatherings to celebrate birthdays with her sisters, and her large growing family. Our mom will always be remembered for her quiet manner and encouraging words of love to her children and grandchildren. Our mama always will live in our hearts and dreams forever.
