Obituary for Antonia Vargas Gutierrez:
Antonia Vargas Gutierrez, a beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on March 6, 1930, in Gary, Indiana, Antonia's life was a tapestry of love, creativity, and unwavering faith.
Antonia was preceded in death by her father, Lorenzo Vargas, her mother, Francisca Vargas, her sister, Rafaela Gomez, her husband, Lazaro Gutierrez Sr., with whom she shared 59 wonderful years of marriage, as well as her beloved sons, Pedro Gutierrez and Lazaro Gutierrez Jr. She is survived by her loving daughter, Aurora G. Gámez (Robert) and her sons, Jose V. Gutierrez, Jesus Gutierrez and Johnny Gutierrez (Mary).
Antonia's legacy continues through her 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carry her spirit in their hearts.
As a cherished member of the Good Samaritan Community Center since 1980, Antonia found joy and fulfillment in her community, where her warm spirit and kindness touched the lives of many. One of her greatest passions was crocheting, and she delighted in sharing her beautiful creations with family and friends, each piece a reflection of her love and artistry.
Antonia had a zest for life that was evident in her love for celebrating holidays, always dressing for the occasion and bringing joy to every gathering. Her home was filled with laughter and stories, as she shared tales of her youth and the adventures she experienced throughout her life. A woman of deep faith, Antonia's unwavering Catholic devotion was a guiding light for her family. She had a remarkable gift for arts and crafts, and enjoyed playing Loteria, bringing happiness and connection to those around her.
Antonia Vargas Gutierrez was one of the strongest women we have ever known. Her resilience, love, and creativity will forever remain in our hearts. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the memories and stories shared by her family and friends. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love she so generously gave to others.
