Antonio
Carrizales
September 25, 1922 – February 2, 2026
Antonio Carrizales, born September 25, 1922, and passed away February 2, 2026, was a proud member of the dwindling ranks of World War II veterans. He entered into rest at the age of 103. Born and raised in San Antonio, he joined the military on November 6, 1942, serving as a Sergeant in the United States Army Signal Corps until his honorable discharge on November 28, 1945. During his service as a crew chief for bomber aircraft, he developed a lifelong passion for military planes, which later influenced his career at Kelly Air Force Base. There, he worked on the B-17 Flying Fortress and B-29 Super-fortress after the war. Following his retirement from Kelly's civil service, Antonio ventured into entrepreneurship, purchasing properties to rent out. Even well into his 90s, he remained active in managing his rentals. He took pride in preparing his units for new tenants, often providing fresh paint and new carpets, ensuring they were rarely vacant for long. Many tenants stayed for years, appreciating his dedication to maintaining their homes. Throughout his life, Antonio made numerous friends, with a deep love for music connecting him to local musicians in San Antonio. He could often be found enjoying live performances, either at local venues or major Fiesta events, always with a smile and a nod to the rhythm. Additionally, he was hands-on with the repair and maintenance of his vehicles and properties, rarely seeking professional help. When he did reach out, he often ended up making a new friend. This generosity and willingness to lend a hand earned him the affectionate nickname "Mr. C" among his peers. Antonio was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and a daughter. He is survived by his wife, children, stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many dear friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 18, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a Rosary service starting at 5:30 PM at Castillo Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 9:30 AM at Castillo Funeral Home Chapel, followed by departure for Military Honors and Committal Service at Fort Sam National Cemetery at 11:00 AM.
