Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Audrey Elaine Valdez. Audrey was born on January 9, 2014, on the Naval Base in Twentynine Palms, California, and departed far too soon on April 29, 2026. Though her years with us were short, her impact on those who knew her was immeasurable, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and light.

Audrey was the cherished daughter of Samuel Balderas and Briana N. Valdez, who raised her in a home filled with love and warmth. She was the heartbeat of her family, a precious child who is dearly loved by her parents, extended family, and friends.

A student at The School of Science and Technology, Audrey's love for learning was evident to all who knew her. Her passion for reading books was unparalleled, and Audrey was often found with her nose buried in her latest literary adventure. She possessed an innate curiosity and a sharp mind that was always eager to explore the world through the pages of a book. Her favorite book series was Warrior Cats. She made sure to collect the entire series written by Erin Hunter and Warrior Cat stuffed animals.

With a sharp wit and a sense of humor that could brighten the darkest day, Audrey was fiercely funny, often leaving those around her in stitches with her quick quips and playful spirit. Audrey still sometimes would watch the My Little Pony Show and still had her My Little Pony figurines collection, which she kept close to her throughout her toddler years. She had a special place in her heart for little furry animals, and her love for them was a testament to her kind and gentle nature. She recently adopted a kitten named Lumina and has three ferrets Cocoa, Koda, and Ashe.

Audrey is preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Adan and Amelia Leija, her grandmother, Patsy Balderas, and her great-grandparents, Raul Valdez Sr and Johnnie G. Strange. Their spirits undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms, embracing her in the warmth of their love once more.

Audrey is survived by her parents Samuel Balderas and Briana N. Valdez, her sister Alana J. Balderas, her grandparents Edgar and Diana Strange, Hector Valdez, and John Balderas, great-grandparents Mary Strange, Roberto and Oralia Gonzales, and Suzie Valdez, as well as numerous Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.

A celebration of Audrey's life will be held on May 16, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Castillo Funeral Home, located at 520 N General McMullen Dr, San Antonio, TX 78228. Family and friends are invited to attend and honor the beautiful soul that was Audrey Elaine Valdez. In this time of sorrow, the family extends their deepest gratitude to all who have shown love and support. "The family wishes to thank her friends and family for all the love she was shown." Though Audrey's time with us was brief, the love and joy she brought into our lives will remain with us forever. She is deeply missed but never forgotten, living on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Rest in peace, sweet Audrey. You were a shining star in our lives, and your light will guide us always.
