Aurora Garza went to be with the Lord on June 5, 2023, at the age of 92, surrounded by her family.  She was born in San Antonio, Texas on June 16, 1930, to Francisco and Maria Leon.

Preceding Aurora in passing were her husband of 62 years, Juan R. Garza; children Angelica, Juan Jr., and Helen Rodriguez; son- in law Daniel Rodriguez; grandson Juan Gilberto Villafranco; parents Francisco Leon and Maria Silva; siblings Olga Bredburg, Francisco DeLeon and Alejandro Silva; brother-in-law Eugene Fotios.  She is survived by daughters Mary Jane Castaneda, Blanche Villafranco (Gilbert), Susan Garza (Joseph Ochoa), and Diana Miller (Michael); siblings Luz Fotios and Timoteo (Sophia) Silva; sister-in-law Claudia Silva; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Aurora was a family-oriented mother who cherished her family and raised her children with love and grace. She raised 5 daughters to be strong, successful women, impacting the world as teachers and nurses. The little green house that she shared with Juan was filled with family every weekend and delicious smells coming from her kitchen. She was a loving "Grandma" to her grandchildren and "Grandmamma" to her great grandchildren, finding joy in spending time with them and sneaking them treats.  In her early years she was quite a seamstress and enjoyed sewing costumes for her grandchildren, and décor for her daughters' classrooms and homes.  She enjoyed the challenge of word search puzzles, had a quick sense of humor, and had a soft spot for stray animals that quickly became her pets. The family orbited around her love and joy. She will be dearly missed.

Visitation will begin Monday, June 19, 2023, at 4pm with a rosary to be held at 6pm.  A mass will be held Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at 10am at San Juan de los Lagos Catholic Church with interment to follow at San Fernando Cemetery #2.  Services under the direction of Castillo Funeral Home.
