Obituary

Aurora Huerta Sanchez went to be with the Lord on August 4, 2022, at the age of 79.

Aurora was born on October 30, 1942, in San Antonio, Texas, to the late Maria M. and Feliciano C. Huerta. She grew up in a loving family, one of six and graduated from Sidney Lanier High School. Aurora met the love of her life, her late husband Rogelio R. Sanchez, who together shared a twenty-seven-year adventure and marriage together.

Anyone who knew Aurora (Gori) knew that she was more than any family could ask for, the most loving wife and mother to her three children, Rogelio, Norma, and John. She shared this same love with her community of friends and acquaintances. A true servant of the Lord, Gori was an active member at Catholic parishes around San Antonio. Always a proud member of: Las Hijas De Maria (Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe), the Friends of St. Philip of Jesus, and the Guadalupanas. She sang with the Spanish choirs of: Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church, St. Stevens Catholic Church, and St. Philip of Jesus Catholic Church, and while her songs have ended her melody lingers on.

Gori understood the value of knowledge and faith and would effortlessly teach the young children she cared for the essentials for growth. She taught colors, numbers, and ways to have conversations with God through prayer. She would generously step up to fundraise for organizations around her, always ready to supply her popular cakes, mouthwatering tacos, or delicious aguas frescas. In her free time, she enjoyed peaceful moments at home working on crossword puzzles and crafts. Gori enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: great conversations, making someone smile, feeling hopeful for the future of those she knew, music, and while her earthly life has to end, her love remains.

She inspired those around her to be better individuals. Her capacity for generosity knew no bounds. She was someone who would help anyone in need with support, encouragement, guidance, and even caring for her sick family members. Gori loved when family and friends would get together to share laughs and stories, never arriving empty handed to a party, and hosting many celebrations and tamaladas at home. Those times exist in our memories and will be cherished forever. As the greatest role model we knew, she is missed tremendously.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Rogelio R. Sanchez; parents, Feliciano C. Huerta and Maria M. Huerta; brothers, Enemencio Salgado (Ninfa) and Luis Salgado (Herminia); and sisters, Oralia Salgado and Delfina Villarreal (David).

She is survived by her children, Rogelio G. Sanchez (Rowena Unagst), Norma J. Sanchez (Jose F. Perez), and John A. Sanchez (Rita G.); brother, Frank M. Huerta (Maria T.); in addition to many extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2002, at Castillo Funeral Home from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. The funeral mass will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at St. Philip of Jesus Catholic Church at 9:00 am with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:00 am.
