Aurora Z.
Pena
May 27, 1927 – November 22, 2019
Our mother, Aurora Z. Pena, went home to be with the Lord on November 22nd, 2019 at the age of 92. Aurora married on May 28, 1949 and is preceded in death by her husband, Lucio Pena Sr. and her parents, Manuel D. Zamora and Soledad S. Zamora, sister Gloria Zamora, and brothers: Julio Zamora, Gilbert Zamora, Benjamin Zamora, and Ruben Zamora.
Aurora is survived by her five children: Richard Pena, Lucio Pena Jr. (Diane), Margie Sandoval (Edward), Rose Sosa (Joe Sosa) and Sally Stumpff (Mark). Brothers: David Zamora, Abraham Zamora (Phyllis), Leo Zamora, and Manuel Zamora Jr. (Amelia).
She has 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
While raising her family, Mom owned and managed an ice house, which allowed her to teach her children the value of hard work. Later, she became a crossing guard and then a school bus assistant for the Northside Independent School District. After retiring, she had time to fulfill her passion of gardening. Mom loved to watch western movies and wrestling on TV. She loved eating strawberry ice cream. Mom filled her home and garden with her favorite herbs and plants, including avocado and banana trees. She also loved to decorate her home for the holidays and her vehicle with reindeer antlers. She loved music, from Mexican, Tejano, to Country. Her husband was a musician at one point, so her heart was full of music. She loved to dance and always had a smile on her face!
Aurora enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. Her brother, David, would often take her with him on trips. She traveled as much as she could with her children visiting various states and countries.
Our mother had a passion for raising her children and grandchildren. Her natural abilities of loving and caring for others served as a beacon of hope for us. She quit her job, so she could care for her grandbabies! When we were in need, Mom was there to guide and strengthen us. When our children needed her warm arms, Grandma was there to laugh and hug them. She taught us all the value of love and sacrifice by her actions. The success of her children's lives is a testament to the resilience and patience she instilled in all of us.
Mom passed away from Alzheimer's disease. Even through the last few years of her suffering, she still remembered our faces, and cried with joy whenever we visited her. Our family met often to rekindle the memories that made our bonds strong. When our mother had moments of clarity a new memory was born, and her smile lit up the room.
We will miss you, Mom, and forever cherish your memory. Your 92 years upon this Earth left a legacy of God's faith and blessings to all that knew you. We, your children, seek those blessings that the Father bestowed upon you. We will forever love you, Mommy.
