Camerino A. Castro passed away peacefully on January 13, 2021, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family. He was 90 years old. He was born in Buda, Texas on August 21, 1930.
Camerino only attended school through 2 nd grade due to the recession. At the tender age of 17 he left home and traveled by train to find work on his own. One of his first stops was California, he found work in construction and resided there for a few years. He later moved on to El Paso, Texas. Five years later he eventually he returned to San Antonio, to reunite with his family. When he returned, he found work as a cook at the "Downtowner Motel" on E. Houston Street for a few years. He later went on to work in the construction industry for several independent companies. He also was a deliverer for Kelly Scherrer flower shop until the business closed down. His final occupation was a game room attendant. In 1958, he met his sweetheart, Annie May Lozano. They married in 1960 by the justice of the Peace in San Antonio, Texas. He treasured the memories he created with his family throughout his 90 years of his life. His favorite past times were barbequing and swimming. He was a great swimmer and swam like Tarzan, (his idol) and had a love for swimming in local lakes. As he got older, he and mom enjoyed taking brisk walks downtown. He enjoyed taking his wife out to eat. He especially loved to eat at The Pig Stand, Luby's, Jim's, and many other restaurants near their home. He lived a simple life, yet his life was filled with so much richness of love, joy and peace. He truly enjoyed and loved his family. He will be deeply missed.
Camerino is also preceded in death by his father Jose Castro, mother , Juanita A. Castro, son, Peter L. Castro, brothers Vicente Castro, Antonio Castro, Genero Castro, & sister Faustina Gonzales.
He is loved and will be missed by his sons , Jerry Castro (Agie), Roland Castro, Reno Castro, daughters, Alice Castro, Betty Ann Castro Rodriguez (Michael). Siblings: sisters Marcelina Marquez, Flora Mora, Frances Luna (Gilbert): brother, Robert Castro. Grandchildren: Lee Ann Castro Valdez, Charlie Castro Valdez, Alex Anthony Valdez, Amanda Rodriguez Diaz (Vincent), Micaela Rodriguez, Mia Rodriguez, Ashley Castro, Nevaeh Castro. Great-grandchildren: Nicholas Rodriguez, Viviana Rodriguez & Averie Faith Valdez; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
