Carlos D
Rosas
November 4, 1939 – February 12, 2020
Carlos D. Rosas passed-on peacefully on February 12, 2020 surrounded with love from his family at the age of 80 years. Carlos was born on November 4, 1939 in Linares, Nuevo Leon, Mexico and at twelve years old, he enrolled in the seminary in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon where he began his studies in music and liturgy.
Carlos served as liturgy coordinator and composer in residence at the Mexican-American Cultural Center and choir director at the San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio, Texas. He was also the coordinator of Christian communities for the Diocese of Phoenix, Arizona as well as director of Hispanic ministry for the Diocese of Baker in Bend, Oregon and director of music and liturgy coordinator of the Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Laredo, Texas.
Reflecting on the word of God and liturgical celebration is what inspired Carlos' music. "The two go together" he once said, "feeding and enhancing one another."
Carlos was a pioneer and an expert in Hispanic liturgical music, who often incorporated the popular rhythms of the music of Mexico in his compositions. He enjoyed reading and studying the word of God, writing and arranging music for the church as well as finding the time to work on elaborate puzzles he would give to his children and grandchildren at birthdays or when celebrating Christmas. He will be missed greatly, however, his music and legacy will endure the passing of time.
Carlos lived in San Antonio, Texas with his wife, Maria Teresa and is survived by his 5 children (Carlos Jr., Gabriel, Fernando, Fermin and Juan Rosas), ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews as well as extended family and friends.
