Carmen H.
Castanon
July 16, 1948 – September 23, 2023
Carmen H. Castañon passed away on September 23, 2023, at the age of 75 in her hometown of San Antonio, TX. Carmen was born on July 16th, 1948. She graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1967 and later continued her education at St. Phillips College. After graduating high school, Carmen did an internship at the U.S. Post Office where she met the love of her life and her future husband, Raul. After her internship, Carmen began working at the San Antonio Police Department where she proudly worked as a secretary for 32 years before retiring. Carmen was a woman who enjoyed pushing herself outside of her comfort zone to learn new things and have new experiences; she used her retirement as an opportunity to do just this. Carmen traveled often and was always planning her next trip and next adventure. She spent time with the people that she loved, always offering support, kindness, and her presence. She learned a new skill set and began working at H&R Block, where she made wonderful friends and enjoyed being a part of a team. Carmen was a fiercely brave woman who never cowered at the new and unknown. The week before her passing, Carmen said that she was ready for whatever came next. Her family is so grateful that this next adventure is going to be with her husband, who she missed so dearly.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Benigno P. Hernandez and Maria V. Hernandez; her brothers, Benigno "Ben" Hernandez Jr., Angel Lira, and Eugenio Hernandez; her son, David E. Castañon; and her loving husband of 51 years, Raul G. Castañon. She is survived by her brother, Pedro V. Hernandez; her children, Sheila M. Delgado, Danny Castañon, Mark H. Castañon and Michael E. Ireland-Castañon; her grandchildren, Christina, Genevieve, Natalie, Erica, Jesse, Christopher, Alex, and Hudson, and her 11 great grandchildren; and Linda A. Castañon and Caitlin M. Ireland-Castañon, whom she loved as daughters.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 from 5pm-8pm, with a rosary to begin at 6pm at Castillo Funeral Home, 520 N. General McMullen, San Antonio, TX 78228.
