Carmen B.
Silva
July 24, 1938 – December 11, 2023
Carmen B. Silva was called to be with the Lord on December 11, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas surrounded by the warmth and love of her family.
She is survived by her 6 children: Maria Cuevas (David Cuevas), Manuel Silva (Stella Silva), Paul Silva III, Sodelva Lopez, Christina Allert, Eloisa Jackson, her 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and her dog Butter aka "Buddy Buddy."
She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul C. Silva Jr, a grandson, William "Billy" Lopez III, a daughter in law, Dolores "Liz" Zamaripa, two son in laws, Guy Allert and Donald Jackson.
Carmen was born in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico on July 24, 1938. She was the daughter of the late Jose M. Bermudez and Maria Del Refugio Chavez. She was the youngest out of 11 siblings.
In her childhood, she would go to Catholic Church with her mom every Sunday and afterwards head to the market to shop and enjoy camarones. She was the apple of her dad's eye because she always helped him around the house and never left his side.
After she graduated high school, Carmen went off to college where she studied to become a Secretary Stenographer. With her profession of writing shorthand, she worked for her brother, Rogelio Bermudez's business, "Petroleo Mexicano."
At the age of 18, Carmen traveled to the United States to visit her older sister Concepcion (Concha) for the summer to help babysit her nieces and nephews. Little did she know that her life would change forever through the Summer of '59.
She was minding her own business, hang-drying freshly washed clothes in her sister's backyard, when suddenly she heard a soft romantic whistle coming from the other side of the fence that caught her attention. At that moment she locked eyes with Paul C. Silva Jr., and experienced "love at first sight." Meeting at the fence was the beginning of their LOVE story. Over the next three years, they would write love letters back and forth professing their love towards one another.
When Carmen was 21 years old, she decided to leave everything behind in Mexico, all she had ever known, to be with her one true love. On August 22, 1959, Paul and Carmen said, "I do." They built a legacy together throughout their 46 years of marriage, until the passing of Paul Silva Jr. on April 4, 2005.
She was known for being selfless and family oriented. Her precious love extended from generation to generation as she dedicated her life to raising her children, and her grandchildren con cariño y especialmente dichos.
In her later years, she loved to play Loteria, Bingo, and scratch off lotto tickets! She loved to sit on her front porch, read books, and wave to her neighbors.
Carmen had an undeniable love and devotion for our Lady of Guadalupe.
She had other dogs throughout the years that she adored including Chocha, Precious, and Peanut.
During Christmas time, she would get excited to set up her infamous nativity scene that kept growing bigger year after year.
She will always be remembered for her beautiful hazel eyes, storytelling (i.e. "los cuernos" and "our dad marrying a teenager"), and spoiling each family member because she had the biggest and most generous heart full of LOVE.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Castillo Funeral Home, 520 N General McMullen Dr, San Antonio, TX 78228, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm for visitation and at 6:00 pm for a Rosary Service.
