Celestina Hernandez was called to be with the Lord on August 26, 2022 at the very blessed age of 100. She was born on May 19, 1922 in El Tepozan, Cerritos, Mexico. She was the daughter of the late Leocadio Martinez and Hesiquia Banda. Celestina was one of 7 sisters. She grew up learning how to cook and make a home for her family. She married her husband Silvestre Hernandez on May 24, 1943. She moved to Texas where she had one son. She worked to help support her little family by making tortillas and tamales. She also helped other families by taking care of their elderly loved ones. Celestina celebrated 61 years of marriage before her husband passed away at the age of 88 in 2004. She had unwavering faith and was a devoted Catholic. She found peace in prayer and reciting the rosary.

She is preceded in death by her husband Silvestre Hernandez; her parents Leocadio and Hesiquia; and her sisters, Tomasa M. Avila, Florencia Martinez, Micaela Nieto, and Paula Herrera. She is survived by her son Angel Hernandez and his spouse Raquel; her grandchildren, Jessica Hernandez, Joseph Angel Hernandez and Jennifer Valderas and spouse Francisco Valderas; her great grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Vaughn, Francisco Valderas III, Alejandro Silvestre Valderas, Celestina Grace Valderas and Mercedes Ann Hernandez; and her sisters Amalia Casas and Maria Salinas.

Visitation will be held at Castillo Funeral Home on September 8, 2022 from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m  with a Rosary at 6 p.m. On September 9, 2022,  the funeral procession will depart Castillo Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. for a mass to be held at San Juan de los Lagos parish at 10 a.m.. Celestina will be laid to rest at San Fernando Cemetery #2 following the mass.
