Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Celia Diaz, who went to her eternal home on June 16th, 2024 at the age of 84.

Born on October 16th 1939, in Bishop, Texas, she grew up in Robstown and later moved to San Antonio. She was a dedicated and loving wife to her husband Gustavo, and a devoted mother to her children Gus and Ruby.

Celia  lived a fulfilling life and was a woman filled with laughter and a love for her family. There was nothing she loved more than playing cards  or Loteria with her family or taking trips to gamble with her sister Hope and many nieces.  Later in life going to the movies with her niece Mary was literally an all day excursion. She would tell anyone who listened that she waited 65 years for grandchildren and that they were the most beautiful grandkids on the planet .

Celia loved nothing more than to be around people. She served her church community of St. Jude's for many years by working in the office and teaching faith formation. This love of people was also evident in her successful Avon career that spanned over twenty years and earned her distinctions in the Rose Circle and the President's Club several times.

Celia was the kind of person that would welcome a total stranger with a hug and welcome them into her home. When her kids were growing up, it wasn't unusual to find the entire neighborhood over at her house so they could go to the movies, but only if they went to church first.

She is survived by her husband Gustavo, son Gus (Jennifer) Diaz, her daughter Ruby (Donovan) Root, seven grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews all of whom she loved dearly.

She is preceded in death by her son Miguel, sisters Louisa and Lily, brothers Ernesto, Alejandro, Armando, Roberto, Alejos, and Gustavo.

Visitation for Celia will be on June 23rd beginning at 4:00 with a Rosary at 6:00 at Castillo Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held on June 24th at St. Jude's Catholic Church at 10:30. She will be laid to rest at the family cemetery in Helena Texas after the mass.

Rest in peace. You will forever be in our hearts and memories .
