Obituary

Celia Gonzalez Slapak, 64, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 13, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on August 28, 1959, in San Antonio, Texas, a daughter of the late Enriqeta Neira and Fernando Gonzalez.

Prior to her retirement, Celia was employed with Old San Fransisco Steak House for over 25 years. Celia had a passion for helping people and genuinely enjoyed to serve others. During her retirement she continued her love of helping others by housekeeping for clients who became family and also assisted with long term care and companionship for the elderly.
She loved to sing, dance and was a dancer for "The Guadalpanas" at St. Mary Magdalen Church for La Virgen de Guadalupe. Celia enjoyed traveling; her opportunity to see the world around her where she could make memories with the ones she loved. Her faith was important to her, and she lived her life for the Lord, a true example of kindness and goodness to all those she knew. Celia's generosity was boundless, and she was always available to help anyone with support, encouragement and guidance. Time with her family and friends meant the most to her, especially spending time with her only grandson Ricky.

Her time with us seemed all too brief. Her loss leaves a void that she would want filled with joy in her honor. She leaves behind a legacy of strong and good people who will continue to celebrate life's milestones with her memory in their hearts and minds. Her faith gives the family strength to keep going as we believe one day, we shall all be reunited once again.

In addition to her parents, Enriqeta Niera and Fernando Gonzalez, she is also preceded in death by her sisters, Valentina Neira and Agustina Hernandez, and a brother, Claudio Gonzalez.

Family members include her husband of 50 years, Inocencio Gutierrez; children, Elisa (Ricardo) Valadez and Francisco Gutierrez; a grandson, Ricky Valadez III; three sisters, Maria-Inez Gonzalez (Leon Weir), Rosa Gonzalez-Salazar (Cecilio Salazar) and Juana Lira.

Additional family includes Fernando Gonzalez, Mary Gonzalez, Jackie Gonzalez, Fernando Gonzales Jr, Mark Salazar, Xavier Bonilla, Jonathon Bonilla, Christopher Gonzales, Ines Gonzalez and numerous extended family and friends.

The family will receive guests at Castillo Funeral Home on Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm for visitation and a Rosary Service at 6:00 pm.

A funeral mass will be conducted on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 10:00 am in St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. Burial will follow with a graveside service in Resurrection Cemetery at Cordi-Marian.
