Charles Richard "Dick" Boone passed away on Tuesday, January the 18th, 2022 when he was 84 years old. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile... and despite all the afflictions, Dick came out a hero and stayed strong until the "very" end.
He was born to the parents of Charlie Boone and Mildred Dodge on May 28th, 1937 in Olympia Washington. His siblings were Bob, Pat and Lee Anna Sue. After Dick graduated from North Thurston High School in 1956, he wanted to better serve his country so he joined the United
States Air Force as a Security Police Officer. He made this a part of his life for the next 26 years and retired as an E-7. Following his military service, he continued in law enforcement while serving not only as a only as a U.S. Marshall for
the Bexar County Court House, but also as Chief
of Police at Camp
Stanley,
Boerne Tx.
During his time in the Air Force, Charles Boone met and fell in love with Maria Cruz Rocha, his soulmate, and on September 28th, 1958 they were married in Beaumont, Texas. He met her downtown San Antonio at "The Tourist Club" and it all began with that most memorable dance. He always
remembered meeting her in her navy-blue dress. In due course, they married and were blessed with four children; Steven Craig, Diane Louise, Maria Elena and Paul Wesley.
As a military family they traveled and lived in many different locations and countries. They lived in Okinawa Japan, England, Montana, Austin TX, and Louisiana before returning to San Antonio, Texas. Separately, Dick had to travel to many other places due to his service. Those places included Morocco, Egypt, Thailand, Panama, Hawaii, Germany, France just to name a few. These travels, along with his upbringing, fueled Dick's appreciation for life and helped to broaden his horizons. After his retirement, he took it upon himself to thoroughly enjoy life by adopting new hobbies and past-times. One of his endeavors led him to the San Antonio Living History Organization which he contributed his time to re-enacting living scenes from the battle of Alamo. He also enjoyed singing in the Lackland church choir as well as hunting, fishing, cycling, and writing. Eventually he would happen upon his truest of passions... photography. Dick fell in love with this activity so much so that he enrolled at San Antonio College and graduated with an Associate's Degree, concentrating in photography. He spent many hours photographing "events landscapes, animals... and he became quite the noted professional in his community.
Above all, Dick was a true man of God, he was very strong in his faith which extended in him being such a caring "husband, "father, grandfather, "great-grandfather, brother, and friend" to so many people. "To some he was known as Chief Boone, Pop, Papa Boone, Dick Boone, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa Boone. As a further testament to his giving nature, he regularly donated to St. Jude's, Mercy Ship, Meals on Wheels and the St. Texas Children's hospital. All of this was a continued extension of the love God showered upon him, which he in turn, felt should be shared with those less fortunate. He passed away surrounded by his loving family and will be laid to rest on Tuesday February 8th "at Fort Sam Houston cemetery.
