Clara Ariaza Serrato, age 62, entered eternal rest on January 15, 2026, at University Hospital Intensive Care Unit, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in San Antonio, Texas.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Juanita Morin Araiza and Gilberto Araiza; her sisters, Gloria Bocanegra, Juanita Rodriguez, and Theresa Camacho; and her brothers, Gilbert Araiza, Lee Araiza, and Leonard Araiza.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Fernando J. Serrato; her children and their spouses: Jason A. Balderas (Roxann Balderas), Jerry C. Balderas (Valerie Balderas), Jonathan Balderas, Jacob Balderas, James Balderas, Juanita R. Teran (Jeremy Teran), Fernando Serrato III (Isabel Serrato), Angelo Serrato (Zaira Serrato), and Esteban Serrato. Clara was a proud and devoted grandmother to 19 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, to whom she dedicated her time and love, always striving to make every moment special.
She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Bara, Martha Gallegos, Rosario Camacho, and Diana Araiza; and her brother, Raul Araiza.
Clara lived a life deeply rooted in faith and family. She found joy in crafting, shopping, decorating, and creating lasting memories with those she loved. As the true matriarch of her family and family business, she was a steady and guiding presence whose strength, wisdom, and love shaped generations. Clara was known for her warmth and compassion, always willing to lend a helping hand and do whatever she could to support others. Her home—and her heart—were always open, offering comfort, protection, and a sense of belonging to all who entered.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family. Clara will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
