Obituary

Consuelo D. Hernandez, 75, wife of Bernardo M. Hernandez, went to be with the Lord on March 14, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on January 10, 1949, in San Antonio, Texas, a daughter of the late Matilde S. Delgado.

We will forever cherish the memories of Consuelo's remarkable life and the impact she made on all those who knew her. She dedicated her life to family and the community where she was deeply respected by those around her. Her compassion for others paired with her education and training were qualities that additionally made her so special. A pioneer, she was one of San Antonio's first elementary school computer technology instructors. She supported programs that empowered young people, as a Girl Scout Troop Leader she was a beloved mentor. She was known for her fondness of many hobbies and interests that included interior design decor, ceramics, crafts, painting, camping, swimming, and baseball.

The greatest accomplishment in Consuelo's life is the family unit she built to be so strong, especially now, in her physical absence. Consuelo will be remembered for the way she touched the lives of many and with sure and certain faith, one day, our souls will be reunited once again.

In addition to her mother, Matilde S. Delgado, she is preceded in death and now reunited with her son, Michael Anthony Hernandez, and siblings, Esperanza D. Mendoza and David S. Delgado.

Family members include her husband of 55 years, Bernardo M. Hernandez; children, Lorraine (Brett) Steelman, Bernardo Hernandez Jr., Yvonne Hernandez and Norma Jean Hernandez; grandchildren, Seth Cannon Steelman, Ethan Cannon Steelman, Brooke Ashlynn Steelman, Amber Marie Benavides, Michael Brandon Benavides, Romeo Anthony Benavides, Briana Rose Hernandez, Abbygail Fae H. Sharon, Isabell Kathleen Hernandez, Gabriella Consuelo Hernandez and Ariana Elizabeth Hernandez; daughter-in-law, Shannon Rosemary Hernandez; siblings, Carmen Reyna, Santiago S. Delgado and Richard S. (Viola) Delgado; in addition to numerous extended family members.

The family will receive guests at Castillo Funeral Home on Sunday, March 24, 2024, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm for visitation and at 6:00 pm for a rosary service.

A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, March 25, 2024, in the Castillo Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 am. Burial will follow with a graveside service held at San Fernando Cemetery II.
