Consuelo Mata Garcia, lovingly known as "Chelo," passed away on April 15, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. Born on August 23, 1936, in the same city that would remain their lifelong home, Consuelo's journey spanned 88 years of devotion to family and faith.

Consuelo was preceded in death by their beloved husband, Alfredo Duron Garcia; her mother, Teresa Chavana; father, Pedro Mata; sister and brother in law Leonor McHenry (Robert); sister Alicia Ruiz; brother Juan Delgado; brother Raymond Chavana; and brothers-in-law Leocadio Torres Zuniga and Luis Fernando Gonzales. Their memory now lives on through a large and loving family who will continue to honor their legacy.

Consuelo is survived by her children: Isabel C. Giffin; Jorge Luis DeHoyos (Elodia); Santiago DeHoyos (Mercedes); and Rosalinda Garcia Morales (Raul). Her grandchildren—Michelle Hernandez Rosales (Joe), Jennifer Dominguez (Esteban), Corina Larque, Richard John Larque Jr. (Alyssa), Jacqueline DeHoyos, and Santiago DeHoyos Jr., Juleny Zepeda, Jobany Zepeda—carry forward the values instilled in them by Consuelo.
The next generation includes great-grandchildren Joe Anthony Rosales Jr., Nathan Aaron Rosales, Jacob Deluna, Aubrie Deluna, Noah Zavala, Braedon Michael Larque, Brycen Alexander Larque and Anthony James Murphy.

Consuelo also leaves behind two cherished sisters: Elsie Mata Gonzales and Maria Mata Zuniga. Their extended family includes many nieces and nephews whose lives were touched by Consuelo's presence.

To honor Consuelo's life, a Rosary will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 6:00PM to 7:00 PM at Castillo Funeral Home located at 520 N General McMullen, San Antonio, Texas 78228.
A Funeral Mass will follow on Monday, April 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Grace Church at 15825 Bexar St., LaCoste, Texas 78039.
Burial will take place immediately afterward at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in LaCoste.
