Cristina Esparza Rodriguez was called by our Lord and peacefully passed on May 25, 2021 at 9:25 a.m. She was preceded in death by her husband Luis G. Rodriguez Sr., parents Pablo M. & Julia R. Esparza and grandparents Alejo R. Esparza and Maria M. Esparza, and as of five months ago her brother, Pablo M. Esparza Jr. passed on Dec 06, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. (PST). She was a very staunch and devout Catholic.
She attended Sidney Lanier Jr. Hi and High School graduated in 1950. She went on to study to become a nurse. She accomplished that and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). Upon completing her nursing she immediately sought employment at Baptist Hospital. She would later on be employed at Santa Rosa Medical Hospital, where she would work for the next 30 years. She then went to work at Our Lady of The Lake University, Congregation of Divine Providence, where the nuns of this congregation and those that were professors at the university, now retired and most in aligning conditions lived there until there passing. She worked there for an additional 5 years as an L.V.N where upon completion of this she decided it was time to fully retire.
She was the last surviving member of that immediate part of the family. She is survived by her daughter and sons, Maria Cristina Rodriguez, Pablo Antonio Rodriguez Sr. and Luis E. Rodriguez Jr. Daughter-In-Laws, Estella S. Rodriguez and Oralia G. Rodriguez. Grand-children, Luis S. Rodriguez III, Pablo A. Rodriguez Jr, Herlinda C. Daniel, Carlos Rodriguez, Veronica Ramirez and Esteban M. Rodriguez. Great grandchildren are Jacquelyn Ramirez, Liam Ramirez and Maya G. Daniel. Numerous nieces, nephews & cousins that reside in Texas, California, Arizona, Puerto Rico, New York, Ohio, Georgia, Florida, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
She was a strong willed, independent and a loving sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. She believed in helping family when she was able to do so and to comfort those in needing it. She placed her needs second to those that needed immediate attention. She loved reading a good book, seeing movies, attending family events, school functions, especially family parties and just sharing her time with family. Family was her life, as she was brought up on and she brought up her children on it as well.
Services will be held on (Monday) June 21, 2021 , with visitation starting at 3:30 p.m. at Castillo Mission Funeral Home located at 520 North General McMullen with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. and visitation ending at 7:30 p.m. On (Tuesday) June 22, 021 the procession will depart at 8:30 a.m. for a morning mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church located at 2114 W. Houston Street , San Antonio, TX 78207. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 10:30 a.m.
