Rico Sr.
November 13, 1927 – July 18, 2020
Daniel G. Rico, age 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday July 18, 2020 at his home in San Antonio, Texas . He was born November 13, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to Eliseo & Antonia Rico and lovingly raised by Maria Rico (Mo). He is preceded in death by his son, Daniel Rico Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Elidia Rico, whom he was married to for 71 years. They raised 8 children together: Gloria, Yolanda (husband Luis), Stella, Daniel Jr [deceased] (wife Olivia) Diane (husband Pete), Elidia (husband Dean) Sandra (husband Rodolfo Jr.) and James. He leaves behind his legacy of 17 grandchildren & 28 great-grandchildren.
Daniel was drafted into the U.S. Army during WWII and proudly served as a Tec 5 where he was awarded the Victory Medal . It was during this time that he met his wife, Elidia. It was a time of many hardships but this didn't deter him. He was the sole provider and worked diligently to provide for his family which included his "Mo" who he called his mom, He had a long career as a butcher, where he honed in on his skills and eventually became a meat market manager for several stores around San Antonio,
Daniel enjoyed playing his guitar, singing and loved to eat.. His favorite restaurants were Luby's & Golden Corral and was a coffee connoisseur.. He especially enjoyed going to Bingo, taking drives, spending time with his family, sharing his experiences and wisdom. He also stressed the importance of an education.
Funeral service at Castillo Mission Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m to 4:00 p.m on Monday, August 3, 2020 and Rosary at 3:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass at 9:00 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church on Tuesday August 4, 2020
Interment is at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery
