David Vela
Sanchez
October 15, 1969 – October 9, 2022
David Vela Sanchez passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 9, 2022, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family. He was 52 years old. David was born in San Antonio, Texas, on Wednesday, October 15, 1969. The ninth child to Dominga V. and Gabriel F. Sanchez, he was a part of a large family. Seeing the love between his parents from a young age, David grew to be just as dedicated to his kids, who he loved above all else.
David loved his family dearly and was loved in return. A true family man, he enjoyed weekly get-togethers with his family, and he particularly enjoyed having breakfast daily with his mother. David was also a longtime fan of the San Antonio Spurs. He had an adventurous childhood, which included learning how to ride a unicycle and breakdancing. That love of adventure continued into adulthood—he loved to ride bikes around Brackenridge Park and spend weekends at the lake with his family. David provided for his children by working at Generations Federal Credit Union for 15+ years, where his coworkers became his work family. David never met a stranger, and every friend he made was lifelong.
David is preceded in death by his father, Gabriel F. Sanchez, and his sisters, Virginia Vasquez, and Olivia Gonzales.
David is loved and will be missed by his mother, Dominga V. Sanchez, his sons David Sanchez, Jr. and Brian Davis Sanchez, and daughter, Abigail Nikole Sanchez. He is survived by his sister, Hortencia and husband Alfred R. Alvarado, sister Linda and husband Antonio De La Rosa, sister Gloria Sanchez and husband Kevin Bausch, sister Yolanda and husband Alfred De Los Santos, brother Gabriel Sanchez, Jr. and wife Yolanda Sanchez, sister Elena and husband Amado Reyes, Jr., sister Paula Sanchez and wife Laura Cruz, sister Irma Sanchez and fiancé Richard Garcia, sister Rebecca Sanchez and husband Mark Anthony Sanchez, and brother Jose Rafael Villarreal and wife Roxanne Villarreal.
David has numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss him dearly. He is loved and survived by 27 nieces and nephews, 41 great-nieces and great-nephews, and 36 great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
A visitation will be held Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Castillo Funeral Home from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. A chapel service will be held at 3:00 pm.
