Delfina C. Hernandez passed away at 97 years old on January 30th, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was born in San Antonio, Texas, on December 24, 1924 to Jose and Aurelia Cardenas.

Delfina was the former president of the Guadalupana Society at San Juan De Los Lagos Church. In addition, she was a member of the Spanish choir and the senior center. She had a constant presence in the church and was often found in the kitchen cooking. Delfina would assist families who lost loved ones by raising money for their funeral expenses. She helped fundraise the return of the church's choir director and his family from Arizona to San Antonio. Delfina and her husband helped provide a temporary home for a family from Corpus Christi to wait out a hurricane. The priests at San Juan would send travelers they encountered to Delfina's home where she would happily provide food and shelter. For fifteen years, the Hernandez' sponsored  Airmen from Lackland AFB for Operation Home Cooking during Thanksgiving. Her hobbies included gardening, baking, cooking, and listening to mariachis. Delfina was famous for her tamales and mole.

Delfina is preceded in death by her husband, Cleofas M. Hernandez and her sons, Albert and Gilbert Hernandez.

Delfina is survived by her children: Mary, Herlinda (Nick), Mario (Sherri), Jose Luis, Jimmy (Florinda), Mary Esther, and Maria Del Rosario (Juan); 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and her faithful dog, Sausage. Special thanks to the care she received from Embrace Hospice.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Peter, Carlos, Jason, Alexander, Patrick and Steven.
