Obituary

On Thursday, July 6th, 2023, Domingo "El Guapo" Vasquez, Jr., 80 years old, reported to his final duty station to guard the gates of Heaven. He died peacefully, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family. Domingo was born in San Antonio, Texas on March 6th, 1943 to Domingo Vasquez, Sr. and Hiliara S. Vasquez. He began his career with the United States Army at the young age of 17 and, at the time of his retirement, had completed three tours to Vietnam.

Domingo became a highly-decorated soldier during his 13 years of service. He received countless awards which included the Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Emblem, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Six Overseas Bars, Marksman Badge, and a Purple Heart for wounds received in action, among many other recognitions.

As a civilian, Domingo dedicated his life to his family. In 1964, he married the love of his life, Gloria M. Vasquez, with whom he built a strong and loving family. Domingo was an avid sports fan. During his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family cheering on the San Antonio Spurs and rooting for the Dallas Cowboys. Domingo is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Sunday Vasquez, and his brothers. He is survived, and will be truly missed, by his children: Domingo Vasquez, III, Velma Lynn De La Rosa (Juan), Jaime Vasquez, and Gabriel Vasquez (Roxanne); 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, brother Albert Vasquez (Janie), and numerous beloved nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Vitas Healthcare and Westover Hills Rehabilitation Center for providing comfort and support to Domingo and the family during his final days.

A Rosary is to be recited on Monday, July 24th, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at Castillo Funeral Home Departure from the funeral home will be on Tuesday, July 25th, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. for a 9:30 a.m.

Mass at San Juan De Los Lagos Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Fort Sam National Cemetery. Following interment, all family and friends are invited to gather at the VFW Post 76, 10 10th St., San Antonio, Texas 78215 for a post-funeral reception.
