Obituary

Our beloved mother Edelmira Garza of San Antonio, TX, passed peacefully at the age of 87 on March 17, 2026, surrounded by her children. She was born on November 29, 1938, in Santa Catarina, Nueva Leon, Mexico raised in San Antonio. Edelmira was known to many as Minnie. She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother and grandmother, who was beautiful, kind, loving, strong, and an independent woman who raised five children. She championed her children through life, only wanting the best for them all. She was a very active individual who partook many social events. One of them being the San Antonio Spurs games, whom she attended with her beloved sister. She enjoyed listening to Mexican and Tejano music. She also appeared as one of the extras in the Selena movie.
She is survived by her five children, three daughters and two sons, Kathy (Adrian) Martinez, Gilbert Romo Jr., Henry E. Romo, Rosemary R. Gutierrez, and Michelle (Paul) Smith, a grandmother to 19 grandchildren, a step-grandmother to 2 grandchildren, a great grandmother to 40 grandchildren, and a great-great grandmother to 9 grandchildren. Sibling to Elizabeth (Oscar) Pena, Rosalinda (Jesse) DeLeon, Victoriano (Delia) Garza, Lilia Cruz, and Joseph (Yvonne) Garza.
Preceded in death by her parents Victoriano G. Garza and Margarita T. Garza, her siblings Victor Garza and Evangelina Garza, her grandsons, Luis E. Gutierrez III (Stevie), Gilbert Romo III (Gordo), Ryan T. Castaneda and Cody D. Castaneda.
She will forever be loved and dearly missed. May you rest in peace, our beautiful Mom.
