Elena
Castillo
September 20, 1944 – February 24, 2026
Elena Castillo of San Antonio Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 24, 2026 at the age of 81. Born on September 20, 1944, Elena lived a life rooted in faith, family, resilience, and unwavering love.
She was a devoted wife to her husband, Patricio, for 59 years. Elena created a home grounded in prayer, laughter and fierce loyalty. She was a proud and loving mother, but her greatest joy in life was being "Nana". She rarely missed any games, school events, or performances. She was her grandchildren's biggest supporter and loudest fan.
Elena's faith was the foundation of her life. Her love for the Virgin de Guadalupe guided her through both joyful and difficult times. She carried her faith with a deep trust in God's plan.
Professionally Elena devoted over 25 years of service to the City of San Antonio, ultimately retiring as a Contract Officer with the Airport's Planning and Engineering Department. She took great pride in her work and in the contributions she made to her community.
She loved her San Antonio Spurs and her Dallas Cowboys with equal passion. She never turned down a game of bingo, lotería, or a trip to the casino. Weekends often meant garage and estate sales where she enjoyed finding unusual treasures.
More than anything Elena had a gift for people. She was always ready to listen, to celebrate someone's success, to comfort them in sorrow, or simply to sit and talk. Family achievements were her pride and she carried the joys and sorrows of those she loved as if they were her own. Her presence made others feel seen, heard, and understood.
Elena was preceded in death by her parents Jose and Juanita Soto; her siblings Raphael Soto, Gloria Vasquez, Richard Soto, Edward Soto, Roy Soto, Joe Soto Jr., George Soto, and Graciella Hurtado.
She is survived by her loving husband, Patricio Castillo; her children, Dorothy, Eric and Ronald; her cherished grandchildren, Graciella (Lala), Isabella, Jesse, Aidan, and Gregory (Baby Bear); her sister, Sylvia (Jorge) Hernandez; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Elena's legacy is one of deep faith, devotion to family, strength, humor and unconditional love. The prayers she whispered, the advice she gave, and the cheers she shouted will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort in knowing she is now at peace reunited with the Lord she trusted so faithfully.
