Elida L. Peña, 70, widow of George O. Peña Jr. went to be with the Lord on Friday morning, March 17, 2023, in Santa Rosa Hospital - Westover Hills San Antonio, Texas. She was born on October 5, 1952, in San Antonio, Texas, a daughter of the late Petra and Francisco Lopez.
Those who knew Elida immediately recognized how important family was to her. Elida and her husband George shared a 39-year adventure and marriage together leaving behind a legacy of children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren. She found immense satisfaction in running a busy home filled with family surround in love. Elida loved when family would get together to celebrate all of life's milestones because she understood how precious time was and how the memories would help sustain her family during times like these. Her capacity for generosity knew no bounds as she was someone who would help anyone with support, encouragement, and guidance. She was a faithful servant of the Lord who prayed for her family regularly. A mother, grandmother, and sister who will be remembered forever by all those who knew her.
In addition to her husband George O. Peña Jr. who passed away July 18, 2008, and her parents, Petra and Francisco Lopez, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Luisa P. Cisneros.
Family members include her children, Manuela Peña, George O. Peña III, Virginia P. Garcia (Jesse), Lillian Peña, Sophia Peña (Albert), Frances P. Trujillo (Sammy), Richard Mendoza I (Kimberly), Jasslyn Mendoza, and Francisco Peña Mendoza; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Aurora (Lallie) Hernandez (Rum) and Mary Lopez; and numerous extended family and friends.
The family will receive guests on Monday, March 27, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm for visitation and a rosary service at 6:00 pm in Castillo Funeral Home.
A funeral mass will be conducted on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church with interment to follow at San Fernando II Catholic Cemetery.
