Obituary

Elida R. Ramos of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on June 15th, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on November 11th, 1946, she was the beloved child of Miguel Ramirez Sr. and Hilaria Ramirez in San Antonio, Texas.

Her 30-year professional journey began at the young age of 16. Motivated by a deep love for her daughters, she worked tirelessly to give them a beautiful life. After decades of service, she retired from Methodist Hospital, transitioning from supporting her children to nurturing her grandchildren.

Elida was a woman of few words, yet her love for her children and grandchildren spoke with a beautiful clarity. As a constant caretaker, Elida never hesitated to be there for her grandchildren. Whether it was waiting first at the school gates to pick them up, surprising them with their favorite snacks, or lighting candles of hope during their biggest milestones, Elida was always there. Elida passed down a legacy of profound faith and taught the value of devotion, working tirelessly both in her career and at home. She showed her loved by providing, protecting, and simply being there whenever her grandchildren needed her the most. Elida’s spirit lives on in her children and grandchildren, bound by a mutual, everlasting pride.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ernest L. Ramos; father Miguel Ramirez Sr.; mother Hilaria G. Ramirez; sister Alicia Ramirez; sister Belia Ramirez; and her brother Miguel Ramirez Jr..

She is survived by her loving children: Theresa R. Peña and husband Joe Peña Sr., Christine R. Sosa and husband Gilbert Sosa.

She will be forever missed by her cherished grandchildren (Jolynn Peña and wife Desiree Peña; Justine Ramirez and husband Jacob Ramirez; and Dr. Joe Peña Jr., PT, DPT) and great grandchildren (Jace Matthew Ramirez, Jacob Malcom Ramirez, Jax Malic Ramirez, and Myah Kingsley Peña) who brought immense pride and joy to her life.

Whether she was enjoying her coffee and donuts or completely engaged in her daily novelas, she took delight in life's simple pleasures. She cherished her time at the local YMCA, where she stayed active and caught up with dear friends. But the holidays were truly her time to shine, as her family looked forward to her famous Thanksgiving dinners and tamales every year. Though quiet and reserved, she possessed a quiet strength; she didn’t have to speak to make her warmth known. Her presence was always felt, and its absence leaves a space that can never be filled.

Funeral services will begin with a visitation on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., featuring a prayer service at 6:00 p.m., at Castillo Funeral Home Chapel (520 N. General McMullen, San Antonio, TX 78228). Services will continue Thursday, July 2, 2026, with a morning visitation from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Castillo Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral procession will depart at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. Mass at San Juan De Los Lagos Catholic Church (3231 El Paso St, San Antonio, TX 78207). Interment will follow at San Fernando Cemetery #2 (746 Castroville Rd, San Antonio, TX 78237).
