Obituary

The Lord called our beloved mother Elvira Bautista Guerra home on September 4, 2020. Elvira, one of seven siblings, was born in Laredo, Texas September 16, 1931. Elvira moved to San Antonio in the spring of 1949 to live with her sister, Maria Blanca Bautista Velasquez. Our mother married the love of her life Margarito V. Guerra and they spent 43 years devoted to each other. This devotion was a blessing to their children and it laid a strong foundation for the family. When the couple began their lives together, Elvira enjoyed staying home dedicated to raising her 5 children. Along with the devotion to family, Elvira was passionate about education. When the children reached school age, Elvira began her career with Edgewood Independent School District that spanned 23 years as a para-professional. Her mission was to make sure that "her" students received the attention and education they deserved. Our mother was kind, loving and a strong-willed woman. She was a "force to be reckoned with", but also very generous. Although the family home was small, she always made sure that there was room at the table for others. All that entered her home were well received and enjoyed her rich and delicious meals. She taught us to appreciate the small things in life and to develop good values. Most important, she taught her children and grandchildren to stand up for justice.

She was preceded in death by her parents Juan Bautista, Elvira Guzman, her husband Margarito V. Guerra and daughter Mary Helen Segovia. She is survived by her children, Virginia Frausto, Raul Guerra and wife Sandra; Carlos Guerra, Norberto Guerra and wife Nancy and son in law Juan Segovia. Our mother leaves us with a legacy of love. Her strength, devotion and faith will live in each of us. Her wit and joy will be greatly missed by her children, her 13 grandchildren, her 22 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews from San Antonio and Laredo, Texas. The life lessons and wisdom she imparted will carry us forward.

The family will receive family and friends who wish to pay their last respects on September 16, 2020 at Castillo Mission Funeral Home on 520 N General McMullen Dr., San Antonio, TX 78228. Visitation will be from 1 pm until 6 pm with a private service from 6:30 pm-7:30 pm. A private interment will be on held on September 17, 2020 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 10 am.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the caregivers at Lopez Assisted Living Home Inc. and Tender Touch Hospice for the love and attention they provided to our mother. The family would also like to extend our deepest appreciation to Dr. Cisneros along with his staff, who provided exceptional care and compassion to our mother.
