Emilia Medina
Santiago
June 30, 1920 – June 2, 2021
Emilia Medina Santiago gained her wings and peacefully journeyed to her final home to be with our Heavenly Father on June 2, 2021. She was born on June 30, 1920 to Rosa Lopez and Juan Medina in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Emilia moved to Brooklyn, New York in the late 1940's. She returned back to the island and moved back again to Brooklyn, New York in the early 1950's. She was married to the late Miguel Angel Santiago for 17 years until his passing in 1978.
They had only one daughter, Frances who was the light of their eyes. Emilia was a devoted housewife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a strict and loving mother. She dedicated her life to raising Frances. She moved from Brooklyn to San Antonio in 1990 and lived with Frances and her son-in-law, Glenn until her departure. She enjoyed taking care of her two grandsons, Carlos, Luis and great granddaughters, Katylana and Giselle. She believed in everyone obtaining an education and always encouraged Frances to complete and pursue her education and to never settle for less. Because of this, Frances went on to college and obtained her Bachelor's degree. She joined and retired from the United States Air Force, married a wonderful man and raised two handsome sons. She was very proud of her daughter's accomplishments.
Emilia loved to be in the kitchen. You could always find her in the kitchen cooking delicious Puerto Rican dishes. She enjoyed traveling as well. She was an accomplished world traveler, she visited countries and states such as Spain, Italy, Germany, Holland, France, Canada, Dominican Republic, New York, Florida, Virginia, Washington DC, Texas, Arizona, Illinois, Nevada, California, and Louisiana. She had a giving and helpful spirit and touched the lives of many. She had a contagious smile and was loved by all who met her.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Rosa Lopez, father, Juan Medina, husband, Miguel Angel Santiago and brothers and sisters.
Emilia leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Frances, son-in-law Charles Glenn Metoyer; her loving grandchildren, Luis, Carlos and wife Jenyce; great grandchildren, Katylana, Giselle and Grayson, many nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.
