Obituary

Emma M. Smith entered rest on January 4, 2022 at the age of 76.

Emma was born in San Antonio, Texas on March 16, 1945. She was a graduate of Lanier High School.

She is preceded in death by her father Pedro Mata, her mother Victoria Mata, brother Martin Mata, and sister Jovita Mejia. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Homer Smith, her daughters, Clarissa Chavira (Janie Flores, wife) and Vanessa Smith, sister-in-law Rachel Mata, many nieces and nephews, large extended family, many friends and her cherished pets.

Emma loved the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Cowboys. She also loved to read a variety of books, from Jane Austen to James Patterson and listen to all kinds of music from Def Leppard to Barbra Streisand, and David Bowie to Al Green. Emma was a big fan of the Young & The Restless, the Law & Order franchise, classic films, Jeopardy! and The Price is Right. She was the queen of the remote control.

Of all her hobbies, she liked nothing better than to visit Las Vegas or Coushatta, her favorite casino, and play slot machines for hours at a time.

She would not hesitate to tell you she made the best caldo and tortillas anywhere. Emma loved animals and was a regular donor to the Humane Society and ASPCA.

Emma suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis her entire life, and she faced the daily debilitating pain with courage and strength. She always worked hard to help support her family that she loved so dearly.

Heaven has gained a loving, smart and outspoken angel. She will always be loved and missed by her family and friends.

As per her wishes, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Emma's memory to an animal welfare charity or The Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation.
