Obituary

Ernest "Choco" Garza, born on March 19, 1968, gained his wings and was called home to be with the Lord on May 21, 2026, at the age of 58, surrounded by his loved ones.

Ernest was a loving, caring, friendly, gentle soul. He was full of love, joy, and laughter. He had a huge heart, a heart of gold (as many would say) and was always giving of his presence and anything he could offer. He was the true definition of a "people person", always making friends everywhere he went. To him, everyone he met or encountered were his friends instantly.

Ernest loved surrounding himself with people and music. He had a great passion for music and loved to dance (a great dancer too) to all genres, but especially Tejano. He was a huge supporter of Tejano music. He was well-known to many as the "bodyguard"/security for Selena y Los Dinos. His passion for music allowed him to travel and explore the world with many different artists in the Tejano Music industry. But to him, these artists were not only legends to him, they were his friends, his best friends, his "brothers", his "sisters", his "compas". He enjoyed every minute he had with them, on and off stage. For him, those were some of his most cherished moments.

Ernest always loved taking pictures everywhere he went, with everyone and of course, of himself. He was a great picture taker, and always captured special moments. He always brought laughter to those around him. Aside of his passion for music and going out to all sorts of venues to support and watch his "friends" perform their music, Ernest loved supporting and watching his Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs play. He was a huge, and very dedicated fan of both teams. In addition, some of his other cherished moments were playing late night Loteria, thrifting at Goodwill, watching Netflix movies, fishing at Rockport, going on Carnival cruises, gambling at WinStar World and Lucky Eagle casinos, and taking "anytime" or "spur of the moment" road trips to his favorite place, Buc-ees.

Ernest was proud of who he was: a son, a brother, a brother-in-law, an uncle, a great-uncle, a nephew, a cousin, a neighbor, and a friend. Those who knew him, which were very many, knew he was a humble, fun, loving guy to be around with. We are proud to know that he left a huge, lasting impression on everyone who was fortunate enough to know him. He loved his siblings and his family so much and made sure we all knew that. But the love he had for our mother was unmeasurable and he always made it known, as well. Ernest loved everyone: his extended family, his friends, his bands, and his neighbors. And just as much as he loved us all, we loved him back but even more. His love will always remain in our hearts for all eternity. May he rest in peace.

Ernest is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his mother, Natalia Adames; his siblings, Patricia Cruz (Carlos), Louis Gutierrez (Ana), Jeanette Cabello (Robert), Yvette Garcia (Henry), Maricela Liñan (Rick), Guadalupe Adames III (Christina) and Julian Sanchez as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many loving relatives, a wide community of friends, and neighbors. Ernest is proceeded in death by his wife Esmeralda Garza, his father Guadalupe Adames, Jr. (Dad), his father Herbert Garza (biological father). All of whom we know he is now reunited with in glory, free of discomfort, and restored in the kingdom of heaven...paradise.A holy rosary will be recited at 6pm on Friday, June 5th, 2026 at Castillo Funeral Home, 520 N. General McMullen Dr., San Antonio, Texas 78228. Our family finds peace in the scripture of Revelation 21:4: "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.
