Ernest Emery Garza

1971–2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ernest E. Garza (Ernie) of San Antonio, TX, who died peacefully on September 17, 2025, at the age of 54. Born on May 13, 1971, in San Antonio, Ernie was the beloved son of Angelina Gomez Mendez and Ernest Garza.

He was a proud member of the Gay Community.  He had a passion for music and dancing which stayed with him throughout the years. He often found joy in the kitchen and could MacGyver a meal out of with whatever he found in the refrigerator.  Ernie was the oldest of his siblings and will be missed dearly.

Ernie is survived by his mother, Angelina Mendez and stepfather, Johnny Mendez; his siblings and their Spouses Anthony & Vada Garza, Johnny Mendez Jr, Israel & Tiffany Mendez, Issac & Cynthia Mendez, Monica & Brandon Garcia and Jesse & Angelique Mendez; as well as his stepsisters Lisa Garza Alvardo and Erica Ruiz Holguin.

His nieces and nephews Issac Mendez Jr, Erin Garza, Jasinda Garza, Joseph Garza, Aliza Mendez, JazMarie Garza, Arianna Mendez, Marquez Garcia, Alayanna Mendez, Cristiano Garcia and great grandnephew Isaac Mendez III and great grandniece Elora Garza.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Antonio Gomez and Maria Davila Gomez, his father Ernest Garza and his aunt Gloria Benitiez.

A memorial will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at 4 pm at the Castillo Funeral Home on N General McMullen Drive, San Antonio, Texas 78228. Any flowers arrangements may be delivered on the day of memorial.
