Obituary

On January 31, 2022 Ernest Jean Mejia, also known as "Ernie" was called to be with the lord.

He was born November 11, 1992 in San Antonio, Texas the youngest of four children to Alex Olivarez Mejia and Diana Rosa Mejia.

He graduated from John F. Kennedy High School and also attended Jose Cardenas Head Start, Hoeschler Elementary, Brentwood Middle School.

Ernest's many talents and gifts began at a very young age. As an outstanding athlete he excelled in baseball, football, basketball and soccer. He continued his athletic pursuits at John F. Kennedy High School where he played football, basketball, cross country, and baseball. He was a Varsity pitcher, 3rd baseman, and team Captain. He was awarded 1st team all district '08-'09; district champ 3rd base '08-'09; playoffs '08-'09; 1st team all district utility '09-'10; all tourney 3rd base/pitcher '09-'10; playoffs '09-'10. After graduating high school Ernest continued to pursue baseball with his brother at Colt 45 baseball league reaching Allstar.

At Coca-cola, alongside his father, Ernest worked as a Field Service Technician. This was a dream he had as a child. He met so many people in the process and became friends. He accomplished many goals that he set for himself.

Ernest loved hanging out with his father on their spare time working on their cars and bikes. He had extremely creative talent in automotive, painting, customizing shoes and detailing cars.

Ernest loved his mother dearly always found the time to take her to lunch and never departed her presents without giving her a kiss on her forehead.

Ernest a bright light in this world always had a huge welcoming smile, a cheerful attitude and a spirit of gold. He touch many lives and hearts and instantly became friends to everyone he encountered.

His heart of gold always allowed him to help others without hesitation.

Ernest, a jokester like his grandfather, was always telling silly jokes. He loved to hang out with his family playing basketball at Kennedy park, Cuellar Park, bowling at main event, going to top golf, going to different barbecue places with his parents, taking laps downtown with his brother-in-law and laughing at all the craziness going on. He was even part a bowling league with his brother Alex and brother-in-law's Kirk and Efren as well as their brothers Frank and Joshua called "Vatos locos". Also loved watching the Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs.

In late 2017, he fell in love immediately with his son Kye and shortly after welcoming his baby girl Kinsley. Ernest proved himself to be a loving, caring and dedicated father. He always made time for his children, taking them to Six Flags, Monster truck jam, birthday parties, and holiday family gatherings. With all of his heart he always loved them and cared for their every need. His beautiful children were his world, although they are left behind, he will always remain in their hearts.

A father like Ernest Jean Mejia is rare, he was one that was so generous, smart and kind. A father like him is what everyone needs, full of smiles and laughter, always doing great deeds. Nothing can replace a father like him, but when you get to heaven, God will be lucky to have him too.

Ernest is survived by his children, Kinsley Mejia and Kye Pacheco; his loving parents, Alex Olivarez Mejia and Diana Rosa Mejia; his siblings, Kimberly Marie McGowen (Kirk), Jennifer Ramos (Efren) and Alex Gallardo Mejia, Jr. (Hilory); nieces and nephews, Kameron, Kali McGowen, Kaylene, Elena, Godson Peyton Ramos, Gia, Godson Alex Mejia lll; maternal grandmother, Maria Gallardo; paternal grandmother, Candelaria Mejia and Joe Mejia as well as numerous loving relatives and friends.

Love leaves a memory

Those we love don't go away,

They walk beside us everyday,

Unseen, unheard, but always near,

Still loved, still missed and very dear.

For death leaves a heartache

No one can heal,

And love leaves a memory

No one can steal.

Ernest had a heart of gold.  The love he had for his family will remain in their hearts for all eternity.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 21, 2022 from 3:30pm until 8:00pm with a Rosary to be recited at 6pm at Castillo Funeral Home.  A procession will depart on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at 9:15am for a 10:00am Mass St. John Berchmans Catholic Church. Interment to follow at San Fernando Cemetery III where he will be laid to rest by his grandfather Tomas Gallardo.
