Obituary

Ernest R. Vega ("Neto") left this world peacefully at home on October 6, 2023, at the age of 75.  Ernest was born on August 6, 1948, to Juanita and Daniel Vega.  He was a graduate of Edgewood High School where he held fond memories of playing football as a Running Back #24.  Ernest married his school sweetheart, Sylvia Vega, whom had been together since they were 14 years old.

Ernest had a phenomenal professional career at the Express News Corporation for 40 years and truly lived life to the fullest.  He was a movie connoisseur who displayed his wit and quirkiness by quoting movie lines at just the right moments.  Ernest held a passion for music: he listened to Motown, 70's rock, and played the guitar. He was a devoted fan of Texas sports teams: UT Longhorns, Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, San Antonio Spurs, and his beloved Dallas Cowboys.

Ernest had an uncanny ability for friendly competition.  When he won a game, he wouldn't let you forget it; when you lost, he really wouldn't let you forget it. He also had a keen knowledge of trivia and had a knack for answering game show questions out of turn. One of his favorite card games was Crazy 8's, where he sometimes mysteriously had a few cards up his sleeve. Oh, he was a character.

He is survived by his wife Sylvia (56 years of marriage); his children Rosanne (Robert) Carrillo, Suzie (Steve) Willis, Ernest Jr (Veronica) Vega, Yvonne Vega (Rene) and 10 wonderful grandchildren Andrew (Rebecca); Lara, Eric, Patrick, Samantha, Eli, Elisha, Isabella, Elias, Lesley.

Ernest, Neto, Dad, Popo left a legacy with lots of unforgettable memories.
