Ernest Edward
Zatarain
October 5, 1947 – February 10, 2026
Ernest "Ernie" Zatarain, 78, of San Antonio, Texas, was called home to be with the Lord on February 10, 2026. Born and raised in San Antonio, Ernest was a proud son of his city and a man whose strength, love, and unwavering spirit touched all who knew him.
Ernest will be remembered for his strong will, his sense of humor, and the deep love he carried in his heart for his family. He was funny, strong, stubborn, and loving — a man who lived his life with passion, resilience, and devotion to those he cherished.
He found peace and joy in the simple blessings God placed in his life. He loved tending to his plants, caring for his dogs, and above all, spending time with his beloved grandsons, who brought immense pride and happiness to his days. His family was his greatest gift, and he was especially proud of his son and daughter.
Ernest is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Herminia Zatarain; his son, Victor Zatarain; his daughter, Rose Zatarain; and his cherished grandsons, Roman, Elijah, and Ethan. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing he now rests in eternal peace, embraced by God's grace.
A faithful fan of the San Antonio Spurs, Ernest's pride for his hometown was ever-present, reflecting the loyalty and love he showed throughout his life.
While he may no longer walk beside us, his love, laughter, and spirit will remain with us always. We trust in God's promise that this is not goodbye, but until we meet again.
