Martinez Mendez
May 6, 1953 – July 31, 2024
Ernestina (Tina) Martinez Mendez passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, surrounded by family & so much love. Born in San Antonio, TX on May 6, 1953, she was the eldest of 7 children. She was a proud graduate of Our Lady of the Lake University in both her undergrad and post grad, obtaining her degrees in social work.
Despite the adversity, she faced in life from an early age until her departure she lived her life with love in her heart. With a smile that could light up a room she loved her family, to laugh, to joke, traveling, trying new restaurants, arts & crafts, & playing cards/scrabble with friends & family.
Tina went on to serve the community of San Antonio & surrounding areas with her education through her time at the Bexar County Jail, Child Protective Services, various adoption agencies, & as a hospice social worker. As a strong woman of faith, she was very involved in her church, Christ the King. A participant of the women of faith group, ACTS retreats, and volunteer staff, Tina was always giving to those who needed someone to listen.
Tina is proceeded in death by her parents: Margarita Nasianceno & Regino C. Martinez; late husband Gonzalo V Mendez & her son Gonzalo Martinez Mendez Jr.
Tina is survived by her siblings: Esperansa Barrientes, Estella M. Salinas & husband Victor Salinas, Joseph (Joe) Martinez & wife Amparo Martinez, Dee M. Cruz & husband Benny Cruz, Gloria Aguinaga & husband Conrad Aguinaga Jr. Her daughter: Christina Nevin & husband Jordan Nevin. Her grandchildren: Stayton Nevin, Milo Dean Nevin, Lisette R Mendez, & Jacob H Mendez. As well as many other grandchildren.
Her light will be missed every day & we are all so honored to have been blessed with a true angel on Earth.
Family will receive guests @ Castillo Funeral Home on Thurs. August 8, 2024, from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm for visitation with a rosary at 6:00 pm. A funeral mass will be conducted on Fri. August 9, 2024, at 10:00 am in St. Alphonsus. Burial will follow with a graveside service in San Fernando Cemetery III
