Esperanza M.
Montelongo
December 29, 1928 – January 22, 2021
Esperanza M. Montelongo transitioned to eternal life surrounded by her family on Friday, January 22, 2021 at the age of 92. She was born on December 29, 1928 in San Antonio, Texas to Evaristo and Matiana Martinez. Esperanza took great pride and joy in caring for her family. She mothered six beautiful children with her husband, Ernesto Montelongo.
Esperanza was preceded in death by three of her children; her son Ruben Montelongo, daughter Ernestina Fonseca, son Manuel Montelongo, and her husband Ernesto Montelongo. She is survived by her brother, Rudolpho Martinez (Rita) and sister-in-law Carmen Montelongo (Manuel); as well as her children, Elida (Manuel) Rocha, Maria (Ruben) Juarez, and Maria (Juan) Sifuentes. She is also survived by her beloved 21 Grandchildren, 49 Great-Grandchildren and 18 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Esperanza lived a fulfilling life in which her love, kindness and unselfishness was always present. She was loved by all who knew her. Momma, Mommy, Mima, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Aunt Betty will be deeply missed. She possessed a spirit of unity, peace, and infinite love and wisdom. Her laughter and expression of joy will be missed, but never forgotten. She worked hard to provide for her children. She worked many jobs but was happiest when working on the assembly line for Datapoint Corporation for many years. As a youth, she was happiest when working in the fields picking cotton and green beans. Esperanza enjoyed dancing, singing, word puzzles, rides in the countryside and helping out at the healthcare center. She treasured the simplest things and moments such as spending time with her family. Holding her hand was like a promise that if even for a brief moment or a few hours, we didn't have to face the world alone.
She will now rest alongside her daughter, Ernestina. Today we celebrate her life. Our hearts ache and we will miss her dearly but will hold onto her memories until we are reunited with her in Paradise.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 from 3:00 to 5:45pm with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00pm. As a preventive measure due to the Covid-19 pandemic no more than 40 people will be allowed at one time. A formal procession will depart the funeral home on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 9:30am for a 10:00am Funeral Mass at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with interment to follow at San Fernando Catholic Cemetery III. Flowers can be sent to Castillo Funeral Home located at 520 N. General McMullen Dr, San Antonio, TX 78228.
