Obituary

Estella M. Huerta of San Antonio, TX passed away at the age of 68 on Monday, August 23, 2021 at approximately 1:00 am, with her immediate family by her side.  Her grandson Jesse Gutierrez is currently deployed with the U.S. Navy to the Pacific Ocean and her granddaughter Robyn Vasquez is currently completing basic training with the U.S. Navy, so they were not able to be by their grandmother's side in her final hours.

Estella was born to Guadalupe Martinez and Margarita Martinez and was the oldest of ten children, but sadly lost her mother at the tender age of 13.  Estella graduated from Edgewood High School and once dreamt of becoming a neonatal nurse; she worked for USAA and as a substitute teacher for San Antonio ISD for many years.

Estella was married to Alberto M. Huerta for 38 years.  She loved listening to Tejano music and enjoyed nights out with her husband dancing the night away.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren say she is the best grandma ever.  She dedicated her life to them and the rest of her family.  There was not a holiday, birthday, or special occasion she did not attend.  She was feisty, gracious, loyal, supportive and overprotective at times, but she did her job as a grandma well and never let her grandbabies out of her sight.  Grandma Huerta's love was unconditional and everlasting.

Estella is preceded in death by her mother Margarita Martinez, father Guadalupe Martinez; brothers Guadalupe Martinez Jr. and Pete Martinez; and stepmother Maria Martinez.  Estella is survived by her husband Alberto M. Huerta; daughters Margaret Gutierrez (Leonardo Gutierrez), and Rose Vasquez (Robert Vasquez, Jr.); sister Irma Martinez, brother Robert Martinez (Joanne Martinez), and sisters Alice Rico, Rosie Gonzalez, Marisela Martinez, Juliet Martinez, Gracie Martinez (Monica Martinez).  She is also survived by her grandchildren Felicia Makela, Lauren Gutierrez, Robyn Vasquez, Jesse Gutierrez (Cassandra Gutierrez), Roslyn Vasquez; great grandchildren Malaia Makela, Travis Kaderka Jr., Logan Kaderka, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Her presence and her love will be greatly missed.
