Eusebia "Cheva" Borrego, 94, of San Antonio, Texas, was born on February 19, 1931 and passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Steve Borrego Jr., her parents, Regino and Macedonia Portales, her siblings, Frank Portales, Emilio Portales, Janie Esquivel, Regino Portales, and Fernanda Flores.
She is survived by her brother, Raul Portales; her children, Steve Borrego III (Gertrude), Joseph G. Borrego (Rachel), James G. Borrego (Magda), Elizabeth Borrego-Ramirez (Luis) and Robert L. Borrego (Anna); grandchildren, Monica B. Moorer (Jim), Stephen W. Borrego (Vianey), David E. Borrego (Jacqueline), Jennifer M. Borrego, Jessica M. Borrego, Joanne M. Borrego, Alisa G. Lew (Simon), Aaron J. Borrego, Yolanda C. Haymon (Albert) and Paul M. Gomez (Kylee); great-grandchildren, James I. Moorer, Adriana L. Moorer, John A. Moorer, Joseph A. Moorer, Agustin Borrego, Estella Y. Borrego, Leo L. Gomez, and Remi R. Gomez.
She was a devout Catholic and lifelong parishioner at Little Flower Basilica. She dedicated her life to her husband and children, raising and educating them in the Catholic faith at Little Flower School, Holy Cross High School and Incarnate Word High School.
She worked tirelessly in the home alongside her husband. She also worked outside the home in the business office at Our Lady of the Lake University and in the library at Holy Cross High School. She enjoyed reading the daily newspaper and completing the crossword puzzles. Also, she loved working on jigsaw puzzles as well as watching the San Antonio Spurs.
Her favorite prayer that she recited is from St. Teresa of Avila:
Nada te turbe, nada te espante, todo se pasa; Dios no se muda.
La paciencia todo lo alcanza; Quien a Dios tiene, nada le falta; Solo Dios basta.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. David Guerrero and Coco Gonzalez for the compassion and love shown especially over the last six years. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower at https://littleflowerbasilica.org/donate. Her patron saint was St. Therese of Lisieux known for her "Little Way", a path of spiritual simplicity and love, emphasizing doing ordinary things with extraordinary love.
